A few hours after the event, Tehran burst into a series of hysterical reactions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saturday\u2019s conference featured <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\" rel=\"noopener\">Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, as its keynote speaker. Renowned American politicians from both sides of the aisle, including former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former US Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, former Director of the Office of Public Liaison Linda Chavez, former US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback and former US Airborne Corps General Jack Keane.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Iranian regime\u2019s foreign minister, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/publications\/special-reports\/who-is-hossein-amir-abdollahian-a-diplomat-or-a-field-agent\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Hossein Amir-Abodollahian<\/a>, was the first official to react. In response to a reporter\u2019s question regarding the conference in Washington, D.C., and whether there is still hope for negotiations with the U.S. to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, Amir-Abdollahian angrily described the main Iranian opposition group, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Mujahedin-e Khalq<\/a> (MEK), and Secretary Pompeo as \u201cexpired politicians,\u201d and quickly left the conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A few hours after, Iran\u2019s state TV channels started broadcasting rather pathetic remarks of Esmail Ghaani, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force commander. In his statements, a shaking and terrified Ghaani kept yelling in agony while insulting Mrs. Rajavi and the Iranian opposition and accused all European countries of having collectively conspired against the regime.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-268096 alignleft\" title=\"Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke\" width=\"257\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Washington-DC-conference-Gary-Locke.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGary Locke, former U.S. Minister of Commerce, said he was honored to follow Maryam Rajavi\u2019s plans, which have been ratified by over 250 members of congress from both parties. Linda Chavez, the White House former Public Relations chief, said Rajavi has been leading this movement for a long time,\u201d the state-run Jam-e Jam TV showed a so-called special report from Saturday\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/live-report-washington-summit-iran-uprising-prospects-correct-policy-options\/\" rel=\"noopener\">conference on December 18<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Washington Summit | Supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> Uprising for a Secular, Democratic, Non-Nuclear Republic<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranRevoIution?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranRevoIution<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/50xK5Z3sIX\">https:\/\/t.co\/50xK5Z3sIX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1604180377173917696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 17, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe former U.S. Secretaries of State and Commerce, without mentioning the MEK\u2019s crimes, claimed that by having Maryam Rajavi as president, a free and democratic society will form in Iran,\u201d channel 2 of Iran\u2019s state TV reported on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The State TV channel 6 interviewed a notorious torturer, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/habilian-association-propaganda-tool-of-irans-mois-or-an-ngo\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Javad Hasheminejad<\/a>, asking him about the message that the December 17 conference conveyed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey showed they have double standards regarding freedom. Their claims of freedom go hand in hand with terrorism and chaos. In the video [of the conference] you showed, they rightly said the MEK enjoys vast support in the U.S. House of Representatives, as it does in Europe,\u201d he responded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These remarks and programs also indicate the regime\u2019s fear of its organized opposition\u2019s role in the current uprising. They reflect the Iranian regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, total desperation and deadlock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei couldn\u2019t hold himself for long and rushed to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/farsi.khamenei.ir\/speech-content?id=51528\" rel=\"noopener\">scene on Tuesday<\/a> to warn his forces about the regime\u2019s archenemy, the MEK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe youth know little about the MEK. We have not been active enough in this regard. We should\u2019ve better reflected the reality because many of our youth do not know about the MEK,\u201d he said, according to State TV on December 20.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei speaks of his regime\u2019s failure and shortcomings in airing propaganda against the MEK, while in the last four decades, the regime has used its full potential to tarnish the MEK\u2019s image, trying to portray the viable alternative as a \u201cfringe grouplet,\u201d with \u201cno popular support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A few weeks after the major Iran protests in November 2019, Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy produced ten so-called documentaries and TV series against the MEK. One of these documentaries, \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aparat.com\/v\/r6AHE\/%D8%B3%D8%B1%DA%86%D8%B4%D9%85%D9%87_%D9%81%D8%B5%D9%84_1_%D9%82%D8%B3%D9%85%D8%AA_1\" rel=\"noopener\">Sar Cheshmeh<\/a>,\u201d (Persian for \u2018origin\u2019 or \u2018main source\u2019) had 20 chapters of 50 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei has used every opportunity and means he possesses, including the State TV, the so-called \u201cIslamic Development Organization,\u201d Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), while squandering billions of dollars of national wealth to produce at least 500 books, hundreds of movies and TV series, documentaries, and tens of thousands of hit-pieces to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esisc.org\/upload\/The%20Risk%20of%20Terrorist%20Actions%20and%20Intelligence%20Operations%20of%20the%20Iranian%20%E2%80%9CSecurity%E2%80%9D%20Apparatus%20against%20the%20Iranian%20Opposition%20in%20Exile%20in%202022.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">smear the MEK<\/a>\u2019s image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Besides, religious fascism has launched brutal oppression, killing, imprisoning, and torturing tens of thousands of MEK members and supporters. In the summer of 1988 alone, 30,000 political prisoners, mostly MEK members, were hanged in a few months. According to the regime\u2019s judiciary, the slightest connection with the MEK is punishable by death. Since the beginning of the current uprising in September, Khamenei has repeatedly ordered his thugs to \u201cnot show mercy\u201d to those arrestees connected with the MEK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Yet, Khamenei\u2019s efforts have failed, as according to his regime officials, more youth are joining the MEK\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/iranian-resistance-units\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Resistance Units Network<\/a>. Messages came from every corner of Iran, and they had a common theme, \u201cWe can and we must,\u201d a slogan that was popularized by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). *** Content on the PMOI\/MEK&#039;s official YouTube channel is not subject to copyright if the source is mentioned ***\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn the current situation, the enemy\u2019s goal is to attack the holy system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to undermine the order and security of the people, and to disturb the public opinion in all domains, including economic, political, cultural, etc. The recent sedition was completely directed and organized to overthrow the state. Trying to exploit fake seditions, the enemies were looking for street riots, attacks on public and government property,\u201d the state-run <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tasnimnews.com\/fa\/news\/1401\/09\/26\/2822550\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Tasnim News Agency<\/a> quoted Hossein Ashtari, the commander-in-chief of the police, on December 17.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei is indeed terrified, and he sees his disastrous failure in controlling Iran\u2019s restive society and the revolution in the making, despite killing at least 600 Iranians in the uprising and executing two arrested protesters in recent days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The recent hysterical reactions by regime officials to the Iranian opposition\u2019s advancing both inside and outside Iran lays bare the real face of a vulnerable and moribund system, which has lost its balance due to the nationwide uprising and the Iranian Resistance\u2019s leading role despite Tehran\u2019s attempts to quash protests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The world should respect and embrace the change on the horizon in Iran by supporting the Iranian people\u2019s aspirations for freedom and democracy and recognizing their right to self-defense and self-determination of their future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Mrs. Rajavi emphasized in her message to Saturday\u2019s conference, \u201cIran\u2019s people have risen to defeat the monster of repression and terrorism. They have chosen to pay the price of freedom with their blood.
