This is why their voices cannot be silenced, and their names are not forgotten. The more their story is told, the more it stays untold.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u201cAnd it remains the untold secret of resistance of a nation, the resistance of the PMOI in the darkest era of Iranian history.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u201cIndeed, if these Mojahedin and combatants had not made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard freedoms, and if <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/en\/massoudrajavi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Massoud Rajavi<\/a> had not challenged the evil and reactionary mullahs, what would have remained of Iran and Iranians?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u201cToday, we bear on our shoulders the responsibility of seeking justice for them.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u201cToday, fighting for freedom is our commitment, and the overthrow of the clerical regime is our responsibility. And we are not going to relent until we achieve this goal.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeking justice for these martyrs, for the victims of the 1988 massacre, and for all the oppressed people of Iran is a patriotic commitment.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/item\/maryam-rajavi-crime-against-humanity-iran-paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mrs. Rajavi added<\/a>: \u201cThis is a commitment and an unwavering pledge to achieve freedom. It is an unflinching commitment to overthrow the mullahs\u2019 theocratic regime. This is my commitment and responsibility, and yours.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/human-rights-issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1988 massacre<\/a> in Iran:<strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> More than 30,000 political prisoners were massacred in Iran in the summer of 1988.<\/li>\n<li> The massacre was carried out on the basis of a fatwa by Khomeini.<\/li>\n<li> The vast majority of the victims were activists of the opposition PMOI (MEK).<\/li>\n<li> Death Commissions approved all the death sentences.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/25928-khamenei-appoints-ebrahim-raisi-member-of-death-committee-in-massacre-of-political-prisoners-as-head-of-regimes-judiciary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a>, a member of the Death Commissions, is today Iran\u2019s Judiciary Chief.<\/li>\n<li> Alireza Avaei, a member of the Death Commissions, is today Hassan Rouhani\u2019s Justice Minister.<\/li>\n<li> The perpetrators of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/157-human-rights\/26738-rights-groups-urge-un-to-investigate-1988-massacre-of-mek-activists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1988 massacre<\/a> have never been brought to justice.<\/li>\n<li> On August 9, 2016, an audiotape was published for the first time of Khomeini\u2019s former heir acknowledging that that massacre took place and had been ordered at the highest levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iranian opposition leader : Crime against Humanity&rdquo; exhibition &ndash; October 29, 2019 pic.twitter.com\/4uc1PQgyqn &mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) October 30, 2019 &ldquo;Their perseverance for the cause of freedom and their rejection [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":54276,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[60,284],"tags":[178],"class_list":{"0":"post-26820","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-maryam-rajavi","8":"category-iran-1988-massacre-of-political-prisoners","9":"tag-save"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
