\nEven as Amnesty International and Western governments have strongly condemned Iran\u2019s violation of human rights, the Iranian regime\u2019s representative at the review session of the United Nations for Regime\u2019s Leaders <\/p>\n
\u2014 NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) November 9, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Larijani represents a regime that is the world\u2019s worst human rights violator and which has executed over 120,000 people and imprisoned and tortured many more.\u00a0 In the summer of 1988 alone, based on a religious decree by Khomeini, over 30,000 political prisoners, mainly members, and supporters of the MEK were executed in just a few months.\u00a0<\/p>\n In July 2019,\u202fMostafa <\/a>Pourmohammadi<\/a>, the regime\u2019s former Minister of Justice and a member of the 1988 \u201cDeath Commissions\u201d defended the horrendous 1988 massacre as \u201cexecution of terrorists.\u201d In the same month, Amnesty International released a statement<\/a> regarding Pourmohammadi\u2019s remarks, which in part read:\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cRecent statements by Mostafa Pourmohammadi, advisor to Iran\u2019s head of the judiciary and a former minister of justice, defending the mass extrajudicial executions of 1988 provide shocking confirmation of the authorities\u2019 wilful flouting of international human rights law both at the time and now and a stark reminder of the sense of impunity that senior officials linked to the killings enjoy, Amnesty International said today.\u202fThe organization is particularly concerned about comments by Mostafa Pourmohammadi accusing those advocating for truth and accountability of \u2018terrorism\u2019 and \u2018collusion\u2019 with Iran\u2019s geopolitical enemies, and warning that they shall face prosecution\u2026Current and former Iranian officials must not be allowed to shield themselves from accountability for the mass extrajudicial executions through campaigns of disinformation and threats of reprisals against anyone looking to shed light on them.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n In his speech to Thursday\u2019s session in Geneva, Larijani questioned Western governments on why they have accepted MEK members in their countries. Translated into the mullahs\u2019 lexicon, he was asking why Western governments have not hanged the MEK members in public like the \u201clargest democracy in Western Asia\u201d and why they are respecting their rights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Moreover, the Iranian regime took another unprecedented and disgraceful step to present an \u201cexhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran\u2019s achievements in the field of human rights\u201d at the Human Rights Council.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Morgan Ortagus, the spokeswoman for the US State Department, responded to this act in a tweet<\/a>: \u201cA new human rights exhibition from the folks who brought you repression of women, execution of children, religious intolerance, and a crime against humanity too long to list.
