{"id":27070,"date":"2019-12-13T15:57:35","date_gmt":"2019-12-13T15:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/27070-iran-regime-executes-husband-and-wife"},"modified":"2023-01-21T09:55:28","modified_gmt":"2023-01-21T08:55:28","slug":"iran-regime-executes-husband-and-wife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iran-regime-executes-husband-and-wife\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran Regime Executes Husband and Wife"},"content":{"rendered":"<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-54826\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/99th_women_executed_under_rouhanis_government.jpg\" alt=\"Iran Regime Executes Husband and Wife \" title=\"99th women executed under Rouhani\" width=\"1000\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/99th_women_executed_under_rouhanis_government.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/99th_women_executed_under_rouhanis_government-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/99th_women_executed_under_rouhanis_government-768x553.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/99th_women_executed_under_rouhanis_government-696x501.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/>\n<p>The Iranian regime has executed a husband and wife in a prison in Mashhad, north-east Iran, state media reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A woman, identified as Maryam, 32, was hanged along with her husband, Mehdi R., at dawn on December 8 in the Central Prison of Mashhad, the state-run ROKNA news agency reported on December 11, 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maryam was the 99th\u202fwoman to be executed during Hassan Rouhani\u2019s tenure as President of Iran\u2019s regime, the <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Women\u2019s Committee <\/a>of the National Council of Resistance of Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2019\/12\/12\/99th-woman-hanged-with-husband-in-the-central-prison-of-mashhad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was the second woman to be executed in Iran within the span of a week, according to human rights group Iran Human Rights Monitor.\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/12\/04\/woman-executed-in-iran-for-killing-attempted-rapist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Somayyeh Shahbazi Jahruyi\u202f<\/a>was executed on December 4, 2019, in the Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz, southwest Iran, <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/12\/12\/iran-hangs-eight-including-woman-with-husband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iran HRM reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime executed five other prisoners on Monday, December 9, also on murder charges in the courtyard of Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah, west of Iran. Two of the victims were identified as Amir Khorram Najaf Abadi and Khalil Karami.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another prisoner convicted of murder charges identified as Manuchehr Iranshahi was executed on December 12, in Rajai Shahr (Gohardasht) Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s regime is the world\u2019s record holder of executions per capita. At least 4,000 persons have been executed during the Rouhani term in office. The actual\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/10\/09\/annual-report-on-the-death-penalty-in-iran-october-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">number of executions is much higher<\/a>\u202fbecause most executions in Iran are carried out secretly, away from the public eye where only the masterminds and perpetrators are witness to them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Javaid Rehman, has said that so far in 2019, \u201cconservative estimates indicate that at least 173 executions have been carried out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/10\/24\/iran-executes-minors-in-violation-of-rights-law-u-n-expert-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rehman expressed deep concern<\/a>\u202fat the overall use of the death penalty in Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rehman also told the U.N.
