\nThe International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), a<\/span>n international labor union with over 200 million members globally, has declared its support for those taking part in the Iran protests<\/a> for freedom.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ms. Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the ITUC, expressed her organization\u2019s support for the Iran protests<\/a>, in a video message on Twitter on December <\/span>19<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cToday I present a message of solidarity with the Iranian people. I salute your courage solidarity,\u201d she <\/span>told the protesters in Iran<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>n<\/span>ationwide Iran protests erupted in mid-November 2019 and became the greatest existential crisis in the regime’s 40-year history. Protesters took to the streets in over 191 cities across Iran and called for regime change. According to the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>, the Iranian regime launched a deadly crackdown on these protests, killing at least 1500 protesters and arresting at least 12,000. The MEK <\/a>has so far identified 547 of these martyrs. The time has come to end impunity for those responsible for these atrocities. The regime\u2019s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, its president Hassan Rouhani, and other leaders, who have been perpetrating crimes against humanity, must face justice. I urge the United Nations to form a fact-finding mission to investigate this major crime and visit the prisons and the prisoners in Iran.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The international community\u2019s silence and inaction is unacceptable.
