This includes adopting new misogynous laws to control women, closing shops that have so-called \u201cimproperly veiled\u201d customers, and arresting and sentencing people who eat or drink during Ramadhan.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On April 4, only a day after the holy month of Ramadan started, Ahmad Reza Ahmadian, commander of Lorestan province\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-iran-protest\/iran-khamenei-elevates-state-security-force-ssf-command-and-call-for-formation-of-ssfs-intelligence-organization-in-fear-of-an-uprising\/\" rel=\"noopener\">State Security Force (SSF)<\/a>, announced they had inspected 141 businesses for \u201cpublic fast-breaking\u201d and closed down 14 for serving food.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Three weeks into a month that Muslims celebrate as the month of \u201ccharity, kindness, and forgiveness,\u201d the regime has arrested dozens of citizens across Iran for allegedly \u201cbreaking fast\u201d in public. According to the Iranian regime\u2019s Islamic Penal code, breaking fast in public is considered a crime. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime\u2019s oppressive measures against all Iranians under the pretext of \u201cpromoting virtue\u201d and \u201cpreventing vice\u201d is nothing new. Thousands were killed in Europe during the Middle Ages for defying \u201cGod\u201d and the \u201choly church.\u201d Kings and lords deprived poor people of their rights and waged devastating crusades to increase their wealth while pretending to defend \u201creligion.\u201d Medieval Inquisition trials tortured intellectuals who dared to defy their backward thinking. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hundreds of years later, in the 21<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">st<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> century, Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy continues dictating its fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. But why? <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The mullahs oppress freedoms in the name of promoting Islam. But the young and vibrant society rejected their backward rule. Ruhollah Khomeini executed tens of thousands of &#8220;Muslim&#8221; dissidents and continued an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/irans-regime-a-major-obstacle-in-the-way-of-longstanding-peace-in-the-middle-east\/\" rel=\"noopener\">unpatriotic war with Iraq<\/a>, also with a major Muslim population, that caused millions of casualties in the name of defending Islam. Women have suffered since the regime&#8217;s establishment. In a bid to boost the morale of their demoralized forces and justify their actions against defenseless people who want their right to self-determination and a democratic country, regime authorities try to portray the current unrest as a struggle between Islam and apostates!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Khomeini used the same strategy in the early days after the 1979 Revolution to stifle any voice of dissent by branding dissidents as \u201canti-Islam.\u201d Khomeini and his regime\u2019s tactics failed because the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\/\" rel=\"noopener\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization<\/a> of Iran (PMOI\/MEK), a burgeoning democratic Muslim opposition, represented serious challenges to his regime. Female MEK members who wore hijabs were on the frontlines of defending women\u2019s rights when Khomeini made mandatory veiling a law. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Just as the Iranian people\u2019s problems are not limited to their basic freedoms, the solution to the current situation in Iran is not promoting anti-religious sentiments. \u00a0Doing so helps the ruling theocracy to easily rally its forces and outflank the uprising. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-305640 alignleft\" title=\"iran morality control\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/iran-morality-control.jpg\" alt=\"iran morality control\" width=\"409\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/iran-morality-control.jpg 409w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/iran-morality-control-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/iran-morality-control-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime\u2019s religious hysteria is the flipside of the \u201canti-Islam\u201d hysteria of<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/who-is-reza-the-bully-and-why-does-reza-pahlavi-seeks-credit-from-him\/\" rel=\"noopener\"> Reza Khan<\/a>, the founder of the Pahlavi dictatorship. The mullahs imposed mandatory veiling, and Reza Khan forcefully removed women\u2019s hijab. In other words, both tyrannies deprived women of their right to choose their clothing and other Iranians of having a democratic country. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The general solution is regime change and the establishment of a secular and democratic republic. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavis-ten-point-plan-for-future-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ten-point plan<\/a> of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Iran (NCRI), calls for the \u201cseparation of religion and state, and freedom of religion and faiths\u201d while advocating for \u201ccomplete gender equality.\u201d As Mrs. Rajavi has repeatedly said, \u201cNo to compulsory hijab, no to compulsory religion &amp; no to compulsory rule.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The clerical regime&rsquo;s authorities are increasing pressure on Iranians under different pretexts.
