Iranian Women Lead the Force for Change in Iran<\/h3>\n

August 5, 1993, marks a milestone in the struggles of Iranian women, and the Iranian opposition, the PMOI\/MEK which forms the backbone of the democratic alternative to the clerical regime, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).\u00a0On this day, 24 women were unanimously voted to the PMOI\u2019s all-female Leadership Council to hold the helms of affairs in the organization.\u00a0Twelve years after the beginning of the Iranian Resistance when Iranian women remained steadfast despite enduring tremendous suffering and torture in their struggle for freedom and democracy; and four years after\u00a0Maryam Rajavi<\/a>\u00a0became the PMOI\u2019s Secretary General in 1989, this long line of battle-tested women were recognized as best qualified to rise to the movement\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

Official and unofficial statistics indicate that the number of working children in Iran is increasing daily and is going to capture a large part of the country\u2019s children\u2019s population.\u00a0Accurate statistics on child labor in Iran are not available because the regime never publishes accurate statistics about working children. Due to the extension and dispersion of the phenomena, exact statistics of working children are difficult to obtain. But if individuals or news networks publish the real numbers, not only will they be prosecuted, but their work will not be allowed to be published. According to Fars news agency, even though 13 organizations in the regime are in charge of the child labor issue, none of them publish the accurate number of working children.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Regime Ratchets up Executions and Suppression Ahead of the Anniversary of Nationwide Protests<\/h3>\n

As Iran prepares to mark the first anniversary of the nationwide protests that began in September 2022, the regime is frantically trying to clamp down on any form of dissent and prevent protests from taking place. Part of this campaign is the growing wave of executions and the killing spree that the regime has unleashed in its prisons.\u00a0On August 2, the National Council of Resistance of Iran reported 14 executions in Iran in three days, including nine in Sistan and Baluchestan provinces. And on July 19, the NCRI warned of at least 400 executions in Iran in 2023. At the same time, the regime is increasing pressure on political prisoners and activists in hopes of preventing the organization of protest movements. In Ahvaz, reports indicate that regime authorities have threatened political prisoner Mehran Qarebaghi in Sheiban Prison to transfer him to the ward of dangerous criminals.<\/p>\n

Iran: Sale of Body Organs Spikes as Poverty Increases<\/h3>\n

The unfavorable economic conditions and lack of a guaranteed future have led many in Iran to resort to selling their body organs to make ends meet for a few months, and the rising price of the dollar has fueled a thriving black market for body organs of Iranian citizens in neighboring countries.\u00a0The sale of body organs in Iran is not a new phenomenon and has existed for many years. But the simultaneous sale of multiple body organs is shocking and bewildering. The walls around facilities such as Hashemi Nejad Hospital in Tehran are full of ads for the sale of body organs. Authorities paint the walls to cover the ads. But sellers continue to display their phone numbers in fine and bold lines using markers or sprays. According to a report by the regime\u2019s Gostaresh News website, brokers profit from people\u2019s desperation, while profiteers in neighboring countries earn foreign currency by trading in body organs.<\/p>\n
