Collapse and Explosions of Several Buildings in Tehran Leave Dozens Dead and Injured<\/h3>\n

One day after the deadly demolition of buildings in the 19th district of Iran’s capital, an explosion occurred in a 3-story house in the “Javanmard Ghasab” neighborhood of Tehran, resulting in the destruction of this house and nearby houses.\u00a0Mohammad Esmaeili Tavakoli, the head of Tehran Province Emergency Services, stated that so far “16 injured individuals” have been transferred to medical centers, with “3 of them in critical condition.”<\/p>\n

Today, the IRGC-run Fars News Agency quoted<\/a> state officials as saying that in the explosion of a 3-story building in the Javanmard Ghasab neighborhood, 18 people have been injured, and one person has been killed.<\/p>\n

Ghodratollah Mohammadi, the CEO of the Tehran Fire Department, also told the Iranian State TV and Radio Organization (IRIB) that the cause of the building explosion in Javanmard Ghasab was a “gas leak.”<\/p>\n

This incident took place during the early hours of today, while domestic media outlets also reported on Sunday, August 9, the simultaneous collapse of 5 buildings in the south of Tehran as part of the “Crackdown on Unauthorized Constructions” initiative and announced that some municipal and police officials lost their lives in this incident.<\/p>\n

IRNA, the official news agency, quoting Ali Salehi, the Prosecutor of Tehran, had described the incident as follows, “The law enforcement and municipality officials were in the Kholazir area in the south of Tehran in the early hours of Sunday, demolishing unauthorized and unsafe structures when one of the buildings collapsed, leading to the collapse of four other buildings, and some police and municipality personnel were trapped under the debris during this operation.”<\/p>\n

According to the state-affiliated website Tajarat News<\/a> on August 6, “the sudden collapse of several unauthorized buildings occurred in the process of demolition in the south of Tehran, and has so far resulted in the death of three people (including 2 police officers) and injuries to 11 citizens.<\/p>\n

Japan Raises Concerns over Iran\u2019s Nuclear Enrichment and Drone Supplies to Russia for Ukraine War<\/h3>\n

TOKYO (AP) \u2014 Japan expressed concern on Monday over Iran\u2019s advancing uranium enrichment program and the Middle East country\u2019s suspected supplying of combat drones to Moscow for Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi raised the two issues during talks with his visiting Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amirabdollahian, the foreign ministry in Tokyo said. A statement from the ministry said Hayashi appealed for Iran to act constructively in the matter but did not elaborate.<\/p>\n

Iranian drones have been a key element of Russia\u2019s continued war on Ukraine. Tehran has offered conflicting accounts about the drones \u2014 first denying Iran has supplied them to Russia and later claiming the unmanned aircraft were only sold before the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n

Rising Bread Prices in Iran Trigger Cost Increases in Goods and Services<\/h3>\n

Following the rise in bread prices in Tehran and other cities, the cost of other goods and services has also increased. According to the state-run newspaper “Jahan San’at,” with the increase in bread prices, taxi fares in Tehran have also risen. In certain routes in western Tehran, where the fare was 6,000 tomans, it has now increased by 1,000 tomans.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, news of an increase in bread prices has been reported in around 13 provinces. The state-affiliated website, “Entekhab,” while publishing this news, stated that the change in bread prices will be implemented in other provinces, by mid-August.<\/p>\n

Thousands of US Sailors, Marines Reach Red Sea After Iran Tensions<\/h3>\n

Dubai (AFP) \u2013 More than 3,000 US military personnel have arrived in the Red Sea aboard two warships, as part of increased deployments after tanker seizures by Iran, the US Navy said Monday.\u00a0The US sailors and Marines entered the Red Sea on Sunday after transiting through the Suez Canal in a pre-announced deployment, the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet said in a statement.<\/p>\n

They arrived on board the USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall warships, providing “greater flexibility and maritime capability” to the Fifth Fleet, the statement added.\u00a0The US military says Iran has either seized or attempted to take control of nearly 20 internationally flagged ships in the region over the past two years.<\/p>\n

Today, August 7, pensioners and retirees in various provinces of Iran including Ilam, Isfahan, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Fars, Gilan, Tehran, Arak, Qazvin, Mashhad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kurdistan, gathered once again in front of the Telecommunication Company to protest the lack of attention to their demands. These demands include the full implementation of the personnel and employment regulations of 2010 and resolving healthcare insurance issues. This demonstration is in line with the weekly Monday protests, as retirees voice their grievances seeking a response to their demands.<\/p>\n
