UK Parliamentary Debate Calls on Downing Street to Proscribe IRGC as Terrorist Organization<\/h3>\n

At a debate held on November 29<\/a> in the United Kingdom’s House of Lords, lawmakers urged the UK government to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization and called for more sanctions against the terrorist regime in Iran.<\/p>\n

Lord Coader stated, “There is a compelling case for proscribing the IRGC. Scotland Yard says that since the start of 2022, Iran has made 15 attempts to kidnap or even kill British and UK-based people. The director-general of MI5 has warned of Tehran projects posing a threat to the UK. Would not such a proscription be in the interests of national security at home and abroad, as well as peace and security in the Middle East, as highlighted by the current conflict? With the USA and the UK\u2019s Countering Extremism Commissioner now calling for the proscription of the IRGC, what possible reason is there for the Government to delay in outlawing a terrorist organisation that threatens security both at home and abroad?”<\/p>\n

Baroness Suttie also said, “One of the very worst features of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard is its persecution of young women. Can the Minister explain why the Government still has not put in place a safe and legal route for persecuted Iranian women to seek asylum in the UK?”<\/p>\n

Baroness Meacher stressed, “Can the Minister, without any further delay, as the noble Lord, Lord Cormack, said, proscribe the Iranian regime as a terrorist organisation, which is of course what it is?”<\/p>\n

Baroness Foster of Oxton stated, “The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is a death cult run by psychopaths who think nothing of the rape, torture, and beheading of civilians in Iran should they dare to dissent. It is they who pull the strings of Hamas and other terrorist groups and who share responsibility for the attack on Israel on 7 October. Can my noble friend tell us when the United Kingdom will join the European Union, the United States of America, and other countries in proscribing them as such?”<\/p>\n

Other members of the House of Lords pressed the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office Lord Sharpe of Epsom for a clear timeline on when the government will decide on the proscription of the IRGC, seeking unambiguous answers.<\/p>\n

The clerical dictatorship issued a threat to the United States government, warning that if it proceeds with the recent House Resolution<\/a> aimed at blocking the $6 billion for a prisoner swap, there would be an attack on American forces in the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Keyhan Newspaper, whose editorial guidelines are directed by the Supreme Leader’s office stated today<\/a>, “It is highly unlikely that the U.S. Congress and government would implement such a folly in reality. Firstly, such an action would sideline the Qatari government as a reliable intermediary for the U.S. and other parties. Secondly, it would grant Iran and allied groups the license to enter a new phase of devastating strikes against U.S. forces and bases in the region, at a time when the U.S. lacks the capacity to escalate tensions and engage in conflicts. Thirdly, committing the mentioned folly could lead to an extraordinary acceleration in the expansion of Iran’s nuclear program and the cessation of Iran’s cooperation with the international agency.”<\/p>\n

\n

Saturday Protest in Iran<\/h3>\n

On Saturday, thousands of workers at Isfahan Steel staged a strike and gathered in protest. The workers, hailing from different sections of the factory, ceased work on December 2 to express their dissatisfaction with unaddressed demands.<\/p>\n

As reported by the Free Workers Union of Iran, the protesting workers marched within the factory premises before congregating in front of the Tawhid building (management) to voice their concerns. Videos from the gathering depict slogans being chanted, including “Special Unit with batons, no longer has an effect.”<\/p>\n
