Social Media Platform TikTok Cracks Down on Iranian Regime-affiliated Accounts<\/h3>\n

TikTok, the popular social media platform, has announced the removal of dozens of accounts linked to the clerical regime in Iran that were part of an influence campaign targeting audiences in the United States and the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n

In its February 2024 report, TitTok says, “We assess this network operated from Iran and targeted audiences in the US and UK. Prior to October 2023, the individuals behind this network created inauthentic identities and used inauthentic means to gain user engagement on narratives surrounding UK domestic policy discourse. After October 2023, the network operator used the same inauthentic accounts to target the war between Hamas and Israel and artificially amplify pro-Iranian narratives and narratives critical of the US and Israel. The accounts in the network initially posted content associated with travel and tourism in order to build an audience, before switching to political topics.”<\/p>\n

Huizenga Resolution Condemns Biden Administration Condolences for \u201cButcher of Tehran\u201d<\/h3>\n

Yesterday, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) announced the introduction of a resolution condemning the Biden Administration\u2019s response to the death of the \u201cButcher of Tehran.\u201d\u00a0Specifically, the resolution condemns the State Department\u2019s statement expressing condolences for the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Biden Administration\u2019s response to the death of Ebrahim Raisi is completely unacceptable and should be condemned,\u201d\u00a0said Congressman Bill Huizenga.<\/b>\u00a0\u201cThe Butcher of Tehran was sanctioned by the U.S. Government for his participation in a \u2018death commission\u2019 that executed thousands of political prisoners. He oversaw hundreds of millions of dollars being used to finance terrorism that resulted in the death of Americans as well as our allies. He also notably supported the tragic events of October 7th<\/sup>\u00a0and the unprecedented launching of a direct assault on our ally Israel from Iranian soil. The Biden Administration needs to stop sending condolences to terrorists and start holding the regime in Iran accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Listing of Ansar Allah as A Terrorist Organisation<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Today the Australian Government has listed Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, as a terrorist organisation under the\u00a0Criminal Code Act 1995<\/em> (the Criminal Code). Ansar Allah\u2019s violent attacks in the Gulf of Aden and surrounding region have killed civilians, taken hostages and severely disrupted navigational rights and freedoms in the waters around the Arabian Peninsula, undermining maritime security and global prosperity.<\/p>\n

The Government\u2019s decision to list Ansar Allah follows advice from Australia\u2019s security agencies that Ansar Allah is directly or indirectly engaged in the preparing, planning, assisting in, or fostering of terrorist attacks. Listing as a terrorist organisation under the Criminal Code supports the prosecution of a range of terrorism offences and puts the community on notice that it is a criminal offence to assist that organisation.<\/p>\n
