Costa Rican Legislative Assembly Deputy Monserrat Ruiz Guevarra gave a speech in support of the Iranian people and their Organized Resistance (NCRI and PMOI) led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for a free, democratic, non-nuclear republic of Iran.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On June 30, at the Free Iran 2024 World Summit<\/a> in Paris, Monserrat Ruiz Guevara, Member of Parliament from Costa Rica, delivered a powerful message. She expressed her honor in participating in this historic event, thanking Maryam Rajavi for the opportunity.<\/p>\n

Addressing the broader context, the Costa Rican MP highlighted the ongoing push against women’s rights by various forces and actors, including those in political power. She underscored the importance of women in political positions raising their voices against the pervasive fear and impunity experienced by women facing harassment and violence, often at the hands of those in power.<\/p>\n

Focusing on Iran, Ruiz Guevara condemned the misogyny and subordination that have relegated women to second, third, or fourth-class citizens. She detailed the systematic oppression Iranian women face, including discriminatory legislation, minimal economic participation, forced marriages, and other forms of violence. She drew parallels with other authoritarian regimes, where women’s rights are similarly sacrificed.<\/p>\n

Ruiz Guevara commended Maryam Rajavi<\/a>‘s courage, affirming that living in freedom is worth the fight. She called for a united effort from women, girls, men, and anyone willing to join this valuable cause. She reminded the audience that while rights are enshrined in conventions and laws, they are won in the streets, and women’s rights are human rights.<\/p>\n

From the Republic of Costa Rica, it is an honor for me to send a powerful message as a Western woman from one of the most consolidated democracies in Latin America. Greetings to everyone here today. Thank you, Maryam, for trusting us and placing us in a significant moment in history, an important history for a free Iran.<\/p>\n

It is not only an honor to be able to join this meeting, but it also brings together many women and men from around the world in a common cause, a cause that belongs to all of us: the fight for Iran’s freedom. In 2022, Time magazine declared all Iranian women as heroines of the year. They are undoubtedly an example of struggle, not just in their country but around the world.<\/p>\n
