By the end of June 2024, <\/strong>Simaye Azadi<\/a>, an Iranian dissident network, hosted a compelling panel discussion on the current state of U.S.-Iran relations. The panel featured distinguished experts including Judge Michael Mukasey, former U.S. Attorney General, Linda Chavez, former White House Director of Public Liaison, and Kenneth Blackwell, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.<\/p>\n

The discussion kicked off with a critical examination of the Iranian regime\u2019s election process, especially in the wake of the recent death of Ebrahim Raisi<\/a>, the Iranian regime\u2019s president. Judge Mukasey shed light on the restrictive nature of candidate selection controlled by the Guardian Council, while Linda Chavez highlighted the exclusion of women from running for president and the concerning backgrounds of the remaining candidates.<\/p>\n

Amb. Blackwell addressed the low voter turnout in recent parliamentary elections, attributing it to public disillusionment with a controlled and unrepresentative electoral process. The conversation also covered the problematic histories of the four presidential candidates, including ties to the IRGC and involvement in past atrocities.<\/p>\n

The panelists delved into U.S. policy toward Iran, emphasizing the need for consistent pressure on the regime to support the Iranian people\u2019s aspirations for freedom. Judge Mukasey and Linda Chavez both stressed the importance of not undermining Iranian opposition groups like NCRI and MEK, advocating for non-interference rather than direct support.<\/p>\n

Blackwell criticized the international community, particularly the UN, for its inadequate response to the regime’s human rights violations and called for a stronger stand against the regime’s oppressive actions.
