July 18 marks 30 years since the bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA) building in Buenos Aries, which killed 85 people including six of my fellow Bolivian citizens. As is true of many crimes that can be linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran, no one has ever been held legally accountable for the terrorist attack, even though it is well understood that the operation was carried out by Hezbollah at the behest of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).<\/p>\n

In the absence of that accountability, the Iranian regime and the IRGC have continued working to expand their influence in Argentina and in the rest of Latin America. The threat of Iran-backed terrorism has never left the region and has in fact grown on a global scale, as evidenced by numerous reports of other attempted bombings and targeted assassinations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is precedent and legal authority for the U.S. government to deny such visas to foreign officials who want to attend U.N. meetings. For example, President Obama rejected a visa for Iran\u2019s proposed U.N. envoy in 2014 due to his role in the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979. Instead of rolling out the red carpet for the Islamic Republic\u2019s representatives, the U.S. government should have made a point of rejecting a visa application for Ali Bagheri Kani, who is an in-law of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. After the Iranian regime\u2019s sham presidential election, the Social Headquarters of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) inside Iran\u00a0announced<\/a>: \u201cVoluntary and compulsory votes in 58,640 fixed and mobile polling stations are about 5.5 million\u2026 the maximum participation in the second round of the fraudulent election is about 9 percent of eligible voters, and 91 percent of Iranians boycotted the presidential election of the Velayat-e Faqih dictatorship.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the first round of the sham elections, the Social Headquarters of the PMOI inside Iran monitored over 14,000 polling stations across the country, including large cities, small towns, and rural areas, from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.
