Death Sentences for Two PMOI Supporters in Iran<\/h3>\n

Executions based on beliefs continue under the dictatorship of the mullahs. On Monday, September 16, the death penalty was officially announced to two political prisoners: Behrouz Ehsani-Eslamlou, 70 years old and father of two, and Mehdi Hassani, 48 years old and father of three.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, September 18, the mullahs\u2019 judiciary also informed political prisoner Mohammad Javad Vafa\u2019i-Sani that he had been sentenced to death for the third time in Mashhad prison.<\/p>\n

They were all arrested during the Mahsa movement uprising in 2022.<\/p>\n

In his latest damning report, Professor Javaid Rehman, the\u00a0UN\u00a0<\/a>Special Rapporteur on\u00a0Human Rights in Iran<\/a>\u00a0from July 2018 to July 2024, described two major waves of massacres in Iran\u2014the 1982 massacre and the 1988 massacre\u2014as genocides. This term is used because the Iranian religious dictatorship executed its opponents solely for their religious and ideological beliefs, seeking to eradicate them.<\/p>\n

Since the appointment of Iran\u2019s so-called \u201creformist\u201d president, an estimated 160 individuals, including 10 women, have been executed. This number also includes a shocking public execution. On September 18, 2024,\u00a0two supporters of the Iranian opposition group<\/a>\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) were sentenced to death, marking another dark chapter in the ongoing suppression of dissent. Furthermore, the lives of four women activists hang in the balance, with the regime threatening imminent execution.<\/p>\n

790,000 Iranian Students Not Yet Enrolled in Schools<\/h3>\n

State-run media in Iran, on the verge of the new school year, report that \u201c790,000 students\u201d have not yet registered to attend classes.<\/p>\n

One day before the new school year, on Saturday, September 21, the state-run Tasnim news agency quoted an education official stating that 890,000 students have not yet ordered their textbooks, and of these, only 100,000 have enrolled in schools.<\/p>\n

This figure was provided by Mohammad Alavi-Tabar, the Deputy Head of the Educational Research and Planning Organization.<\/p>\n

177-Year Wait for Tehran Residents to Buy a Home If Prices Stay Stable for 200 Years<\/h3>\n

The housing crisis in Iran has manifested as substandard housing and housing poverty in Tehran. Media reports indicate a 17% increase in prices in August, with the average housing price surpassing 880 million rials (approximately $1,466), and an estimated 177-year wait to purchase a home, assuming prices remain stable for the next two centuries.\u00a0On September 20, the state-run Tasnim News Agency reported: \u201cWhile the average annual income for urban households has reached 2.56 billion rials (approximately $4,267), Tehran households can expect to become homeowners after 177 years if they save part of this income.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tasnim emphasized that the average\u00a0housing price in Tehran<\/a>\u00a0has reached 885 million rials, and given this price, the wait for a Tehran household to purchase a 100-square-meter unit is about 177 years, assuming housing prices remain unchanged for the next two centuries.<\/p>\n
