Officials and regime mouthpieces have made a flurry of statements, revealing both their anxiety and a recognition of their weakened position in any negotiations with the West.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mohammad Eslami, head of the regime\u2019s Atomic Energy Organization, acknowledged on a state TV interview on November 27 that Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aftabno.ir\/sportnews\/398004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has initiated gas injection<\/a> into thousands of advanced centrifuges in response to the International Atomic Energy Agency&#8217;s (IAEA) resolution. \u201cThis is part of our nuclear development program. Iran has always shown a willingness to cooperate, but it will never retreat in the face of force and illegal actions,\u201d Eslami said. Attempting to downplay the IAEA\u2019s findings, he dismissed the discovery of undeclared nuclear materials as \u201cold accusations\u201d fabricated by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) to justify pressure on Tehran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eslami\u2019s defensive remarks are emblematic of the regime\u2019s larger struggle. A member of the presidium, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yjc.ir\/fa\/amp\/news\/8875185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mojtaba Yusefi, suggested<\/a> a potential shift in Iran\u2019s nuclear doctrine. \u201cIf Europe fails to meet its obligations, we will increase our uranium stockpile beyond current levels. While our Leader has stated that nuclear weapons are not part of our doctrine, continued hostility from Israel and the UN will force us to reassess our policies,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/borna.news\/fa\/news\/2164725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ebrahim Rezaee<\/a>, spokesman for the parliament\u2019s security and foreign policy commission, declared, \u201cWe should respond to the IAEA resolution with strength, including considering withdrawal from the NPT [Non-Proliferation Treaty]. If necessary, we can enrich uranium to 90% or beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This rhetoric underscores the regime\u2019s strategy of nuclear extortion, attempting to dissuade Western powers from activating the snapback mechanism. Fereydoon Abbasi, former head of Iran\u2019s Atomic Energy Organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isna.ir\/news\/1403090402452\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bluntly stated<\/a>, \u201cWe must pursue higher enrichment levels. Negotiations should not lead us to abandon our national capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite these threats, some of the regime\u2019s own media have criticized ongoing negotiations with Europe as a sign of weakness. The state-affiliated <a href=\"https:\/\/kayhan.ir\/fa\/news\/300506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Kayhan<\/em> newspaper warned<\/a> that the current talks risk \u201csubmitting to the enemy,\u201d claiming reformist politicians are enabling \u201chumiliating negotiations.\u201d In an article published on November 25, <em>Kayhan<\/em> questioned, \u201cWhat will they sacrifice this time in these negotiations?\u201d This admission reflects Tehran\u2019s growing fear that its position in any dialogue is fundamentally compromised.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: <br \/>Officials Call for Higher Enrichment, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NPT?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NPT<\/a> Exit, and Even Nuclear Bomb Development<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NbqapEaqWc\">https:\/\/t.co\/NbqapEaqWc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1860960364151619961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Masoud Barati, a regime-linked analyst, further highlighted Tehran\u2019s precarious stance. \u201cGiven the hostile actions of Europe, including sanctions and anti-Iran resolutions, entering negotiations from this position of weakness raises serious doubts about the outcome,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/DzFdvyR1Zfc?t=63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he warned<\/a> on November 24.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The state-affiliated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jahannews.com\/news\/906359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Jahan News<\/em> website<\/a> published an article titled &#8220;Rushing to the Negotiation Table One Week After the Resolution Against Iran!&#8221; in which it criticized ongoing talks with Europe. The article accused pro-Western elements of &#8220;having no qualms about weakening the government and the Foreign Ministry against the West, just as they drove Rouhani\u2019s administration into a position of weakness during negotiations.&#8221; It argued that &#8220;the government and Foreign Ministry, representing the Iranian nation, should be demanding restitution for Iran\u2019s violated rights in the agreement, not acting as if they owe something.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the regime postures aggressively, these admissions reveal a state acutely aware of its vulnerability. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/nuclear\/irans-regime-gripped-by-fear-over-potential-activation-of-unsc-snapback-mechanism\/\">looming snapback mechanism<\/a> threatens to reinstate comprehensive UN sanctions, a move that could cripple Tehran\u2019s already fragile economy and exacerbate internal unrest. In this context, Tehran\u2019s threats of escalation and nuclear advancements are less a show of strength and more a desperate attempt to intimidate and delay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the international community evaluates its response, it must recognize Tehran\u2019s strategy for what it is: nuclear blackmail designed to forestall decisive action. The only effective response is to resist these threats and reinstate the full spectrum of sanctions under the snapback mechanism.
