The International Committee in Search of Justice<\/a> (ISJ), representing over 4,000 cross-party lawmakers, has written urgent letters to Hon. Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Volker T\u00fcrk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. The ISJ is calling for immediate intervention to halt the execution of six political prisoners in Iran, all sentenced to death on politically motivated charges.<\/p>\n

The six prisoners\u2014Abolhassan Montazer (65), Pouya Ghobadi (32), Vahid Bani-Amerian (32), Babak Alipour (33), Ali Akbar Daneshvarkar (57), and Mohammad Taghavi (58)\u2014have been convicted of charges such as \u201cmembership in the PMOI\/MEK\u201d and \u201ccollusion against national security.\u201d The ISJ condemned the sentences as baseless and highlighted that the individuals were subjected to months of interrogation and torture before being convicted by Judge Iman Afshari of Tehran\u2019s Revolutionary Court.<\/p>\n

The letters stress that the regime is using executions as a weapon to suppress growing dissent, noting a dramatic surge in executions since August 2024, with over 541 individuals, including 17 women, hanged under President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/a>\u2019s government. The ISJ described the judiciary\u2019s actions as part of a broader strategy to stifle calls for democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n
