Mostafa Rajabi, CEO of Iran\u2019s state electricity company, admitted earlier this year that unlicensed bitcoin farms have caused \u201can abnormal increase in consumption\u201d equivalent to the needs of entire provinces. While small-scale miners are raided by police, large operations tied to state institutions continue to operate with impunity.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThey distribute their machines across several apartments to avoid being detected,\u201d said Masih Alavi, CEO of Viraminer, a government-licensed mining company. The unchecked nature of these operations has raised questions about the government\u2019s priorities during an energy crisis.<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Public Anger Reaches Boiling Point<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As blackouts stretch into hours and days, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iranntv.com\/945745-%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%B6-%D8%A8%D9%87-%D9%82%D8%B7%D8%B9-%D8%A8%D8%B1%D9%82-%D8%AF%D8%B1-%D8%B4%D9%87%D8%B1%D9%87%D8%A7%DB%8C-%D8%AA%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86--%DA%A9%D8%B1%D8%AC-%D9%88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">protests have erupted<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> across the country. On December 16, residents of Tehran\u2019s Golgun Industrial Zone blocked the Tehran-Saveh highway, chanting slogans against the regime. In Karaj, nightly demonstrations have gained momentum, with protesters shouting \u201cDeath to Khamenei\u201d and \u201cDeath to the dictator\u201d as they endure repeated power outages.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe\u2019re awake now!\u201d declared one protester in a video widely circulated online. \u201cEvery night we will gather until this regime falls!\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Power Crisis in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>: Widespread Outages and Public Discontent<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sSOfWttUr1\">https:\/\/t.co\/sSOfWttUr1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1817957004243308694?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 29, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Small business owners, too, are voicing their frustration. A baker in Isfahan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uieuojaKx8E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">shared a video<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of ruined dough after a sudden power cut interrupted production. \u201cWho is going to answer for this waste?\u201d he asked. \u201cThe government says we should rely on alternative fuels, but where are they?\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Public anger is further fueled by the regime\u2019s president Masoud Pezeshkian\u2019s comments downplaying the crisis. In a recent address<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mehrnews.com\/news\/6289666\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">, he said<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, \u201cI wear warm clothes at home; others can do the same.\u201d This remark, seen as dismissive and tone-deaf, has only intensified resentment toward a government perceived as out of touch with the struggles of ordinary citizens.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Systemic Failure<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The clerical regime\u2019s inability to manage the energy crisis is symptomatic of broader systemic failures. The regime is clearly prioritizing its own survival and regional ambitions over the well-being of its people. As the protests grow louder and more frequent, the energy crisis is evolving into a flashpoint for broader dissatisfaction with the regime. Iran\u2019s citizens, facing freezing temperatures, polluted air, and daily disruptions, are no longer willing to endure the consequences of the government\u2019s mismanagement and duplicity.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The clerical establishment may hope that the anger will subside, but with each blackout and broken promise, the cracks in its authority grow deeper.
