This anxiety is evident across state-controlled media and remarks from regime officials, reflecting their deep concern over structural failures and public unrest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The state-run <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etemadonline.com\/%D8%A8%D8%AE%D8%B4-%D8%B3%DB%8C%D8%A7%D8%B3%DB%8C-9\/692373-%D9%87%D8%B4%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%B5%D8%B1%DB%8C%D8%AD-%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%AF%DB%8C-%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D8%AA-%D8%AD%DA%A9%D9%88%D9%85%D8%AA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">daily Etemad painted<\/a> a grim picture of the regime&#8217;s capacity to govern, writing: &#8220;No opportunities remain for our government&#8230; The unresolved issues and structural imbalances are no longer tolerable. Planning is impossible in Iran given the deep internal rifts. Iran\u2019s car of planning has no driver, or if it does, the driver cannot control it. More importantly, the destination is unclear, and there\u2019s no consensus on it. Passengers exceed capacity, there\u2019s no sufficient fuel, and in short, this car cannot be driven to any safe destination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/fa.shafaqna.com\/news\/1952780\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Siasat Rooz<\/em> lamented<\/a> the dire state of the economy: &#8220;We are witnessing the worsening of the economic situation&#8230; the dollar rate exceeding 80,000 tomans&#8230; shortages of gasoline, electricity, gas, and water, coupled with soaring prices of chicken, eggs, meat, and other essential goods. All these point to a simple conclusion: the economic situation is dire, and the government must prioritize addressing economic issues before it\u2019s too late.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Throughout 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MEKResistanceUnits?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MEKResistanceUnits<\/a> kept the uprising alive. Despite arrests, torture, and forced disappearances, they grew stronger, amplifying defiant actions and inspiring millions to join the fight for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FreeIran2025?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FreeIran2025<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KYjAg6hW6g\">pic.twitter.com\/KYjAg6hW6g<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1874552761800667243?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 1, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Factional infighting within the regime has further intensified the atmosphere of instability. Hossein Selahvarzi, former head of the regime\u2019s Chamber of Commerce, took a jab at the regime\u2019s extremist factions in a pointed social media post. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HSelahvarzi\/status\/1874198646306095366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">He wrote<\/a>: &#8220;They imagine that by stirring society, initiating street protests, and staging motorcycle demonstrations, the Pezeshkian government will collapse, and power will pass into the hands of the &#8216;Union of Fools.&#8217; But no, you\u2019ve simply caught a whiff of opportunity. With the spread of protests, what\u2019s truly at risk of collapse is something entirely different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selahvarzi\u2019s cryptic yet foreboding remarks suggest that any escalation of protests could threaten not just the government but the survival of the entire regime. Referencing a line of poetry, he added:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;I was in this tavern on that day with the sufferers of pain, Where neither the vine remained, nor any trace of the vine.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The implications of his words are clear: the regime as a whole, not just its factions or individual leaders, faces an existential threat if public unrest continues to grow.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mostafa Pourmohammadi&#39;s staged interview reveals the regime&#39;s desperation to rewrite history on the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/1988Massacre?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#1988Massacre<\/a> and counter MEK&#39;s influence on a restless society\u2014an organization <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Tehran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tehran<\/a> has tried hard to eliminate and defame while claiming it has no significant following. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dbxo2jjZGa\">pic.twitter.com\/dbxo2jjZGa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1805498848271315171?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marking the anniversary of the 2009 uprising, Friday prayer leaders\u2014mouthpieces for the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei\u2014sought to rally morale by recalling past crackdowns. Ahmad Khatami, the occasional Friday prayer leader in Tehran, referenced the regime\u2019s survival against the MEK&#8217;s uprisings in the 1980s, <a href=\"https:\/\/fararu.com\/fa\/news\/814867\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claiming<\/a>: &#8220;Some corrupt pens suggest that with the fall of the Syrian government, the Resistance Front and Iran were weakened. But the Supreme Leader firmly stated that Iran has emerged stronger than ever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ramadan Sharif, head of the IRGC\u2019s Center for Documents and Research, acknowledged the fear and uncertainty it has sown among some regime followers, officials, and state media. <a href=\"https:\/\/fararu.com\/fa\/news\/815599\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sharif urged<\/a> regime loyalists not to succumb to what he called MEK\u2019s social media influence: &#8220;Unfortunately, today some individuals are being swayed by the noise created by a terrorist group on virtual platforms. But if they were to see the broader picture\u2014like the achievements of the Resistance Front across Syria\u2014they would understand the wisdom of the Supreme Leader\u2019s foresight and recognize that invading groups are destined for defeat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The regime\u2019s obsession with the MEK\u2019s growing appeal among the youth was palpable. Mohammad Hossein Safavi, the Friday prayer leader of Rasht, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/qezavatba_shoma\/status\/1873471726740443243\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed dismay<\/a>: &#8220;We are saddened that some gravitate towards the Baha\u2019is, the hypocrites [MEK], and enemies like England and America. What can we do? It\u2019s just their nature!&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Five years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>&#39;s November 2019 uprising erupted in over 190 cities\u2014an outcry against tyranny and injustice. Despite the regime\u2019s brutal crackdown, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MEKResistanceUnits?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MEKResistanceUnits<\/a> stood tall, leading the charge for freedom. Their admissions highlight a crumbling regime, overwhelmed by internal crises, factional conflicts, and the looming threat of organized resistance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The recent fall of the Syrian regime after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/the-iranian-regimes-role-in-propping-up-bashar-al-assad-in-syria\/\">13 years of brutal crackdowns<\/a>, billions of dollars spent, and thousands of IRGC and proxy fighters deployed to save Bashar al-Assad, has starkly demonstrated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei\u2019s failure to both the Iranian people and his demoralized followers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faced with this reality, the illegitimate clerical regime in Tehran has little left but to resort to relentless propaganda to scare off dissent and boost the morale of its forces. It fears that if its loyalists lose hope\u2014seeing how their peers in Syria, including the infamous torturers of Sydnaya Prison, are being held to account\u2014the regime itself is doomed to meet the same fate.
