The event, organized by the Association of Former Political Prisoners, called for urgent action to halt the execution of political prisoners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/mde13\/8975\/2025\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani<\/a>, as well as broader measures against Tehran\u2019s human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Neda Zabeti<\/strong>, an Iranian human rights activist, delivered a powerful address, stressing the regime\u2019s increasing brutality: \u201cThe number of executions taking place per year is reaching unprecedented levels as the Iranian regime continues to act with impunity.\u201d She pointed out that Iran had the highest number of confirmed executions in 2023, and under its new so-called reformist president Masoud Pezeshkian, at least 774 individuals had been executed since August 2024\u2014an 85% increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zabeti condemned the regime\u2019s use of vague and arbitrary charges such as \u201cEnmity against God\u201d and \u201cSpreading corruption on Earth\u201d to justify executions, stressing: \u201cUN experts have explicitly stated that the death penalty as currently practiced in Iran amounts to unlawful execution.\u201d She called on the UK government to take immediate and decisive action, including urging the Iranian regime to release all political prisoners and annulling the death sentences of <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfocus.com\/human-rights\/53244-amnesty-international-warns-of-the-imminent-execution-risk-of-two-political-prisoners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eight PMOI members<\/a> currently on death row. \u201cTomorrow is too late,\u201d she warned.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 A conference held at the UK Parliament on Jan 28, 2025, exposed Iran\u2019s alarming surge in executions. She declared: \u201cNeither the judiciary nor these executions are about justice. They are tools of oppression, aimed at silencing dissent and crushing the democratic opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O\u2019Loan praised the No to Executions Campaign, in which Iranian political prisoners stage weekly hunger strikes despite life-threatening conditions, describing it as \u201cquite remarkable.\u201d She urged the UK government to finally act by prescribing the IRGC as a terrorist organization, as the U.S. and Canada have already done, and by leading efforts at the UN to hold Iran accountable under international law. \u201cIran\u2019s people need action, not just words,\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Lord Richard Whitty<\/strong> decried Western complacency in confronting Iran\u2019s human rights violations: \u201cAt the moment, there are too many people turning a blind eye. We need political and public pressure in Europe and beyond to ensure that the world sees Iran as a blot on humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He insisted that Western governments must cut all political and economic support to Iran\u2019s leadership: \u201cWe need to ensure that the levers of power available to Western governments are fully used. We&#8217;ve been too slow. All that does is prolong the agony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>British MP David Pinto-Duschinsky<\/strong> shared his deep concern over the regime\u2019s mass executions and suppression of rights: \u201cWhat\u2019s happening right now breaks my heart. The Iranian regime is at once powerful and yet incredibly vulnerable.\u201d He committed to continuing parliamentary efforts to support Iranian opposition movements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Iranian political prisoners delivered firsthand testimonies of torture, forced confessions, and mass executions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ahmad Ebrahimi<\/strong>, who survived the regime\u2019s 1988 massacre, warned: \u201cThe Iranian regime uses executions as a tool to stay in power.\u201d He highlighted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/iran-khameneis-new-record-in-executions-and-crimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 1,000 executions<\/a> were carried out in 2024 alone, including dozens of political prisoners. \u201cThe global community must stand together to put an end to these atrocities and support the courageous efforts of the Iranian people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Jamshid Adhami<\/strong>, imprisoned for three years for opposing stoning sentences against women, spoke of the psychological terror inside Iran\u2019s prisons: \u201cEvery day, prisoners count executions: 30, 40, sometimes 180 people in a single day. Every time the door opens, they think, \u2018Am I next?\u2019\u201d He called on Western governments to make diplomatic relations with Iran conditional on halting executions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Reza Rahmanfard<\/strong>, who spent five years in Iran\u2019s prisons and lost his 19-year-old brother to execution, urged international solidarity: \u201cThis is a battlefield against tyranny and barbarism.
