It openly states: \u201cA weak and rootless movement like monarchism can actually help the survival of the Islamic Republic. This is the service the royal family provides to the Iranian people.\u201d This remark is a striking admission of how the regime perceives monarchists\u2014not as a viable opposition, but as a controlled and convenient foil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The piece argues that Iran\u2019s shift away<a href=\"https:\/\/www.villagevoice.com\/beautiful-butchers-the-shah-serves-up-caviar-and-torture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> from monarchy was inevitable<\/a>, regardless of the 1979 revolution. It dismisses their influence by claiming, \u201cToday, monarchist activities in Iran are mostly confined to cyberspace and certain circles abroad.\u201d It further suggests that monarchists exploit public grievances for their own political ends: \u201cThis movement, which mainly takes advantage of economic and social dissatisfaction, attempts to present itself as an alternative to the Islamic Republic. However, the reality is that monarchists not only lack significant popular support but have also failed to gain traction even among the opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the newspaper fails to mention the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/irans-cyber-army-a-force-of-disinformation-for-a-cursed-cause\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iranian regime&#8217;s cyber army<\/a> systematically employing coordinated efforts to promote Reza Pahlavi and the remnants of the Shah as part of the regime&#8217;s intelligence strategy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Selling a Dead Horse: Reza Pahlavi\u2019s Bid to Market a Trashed Dictatorship<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s6np8ebsVU\">https:\/\/t.co\/s6np8ebsVU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1651246253722972160?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The article attacks specific tactics employed by monarchists:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Nostalgia for the Pahlavi Era<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cMonarchists create an idealized image of the Pahlavi period, relying on symbols and slogans of that time, trying to mislead younger generations who have no memory of it.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Framing the Monarchy as the Only Solution<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cThey attempt to argue that the only way to improve Iran\u2019s condition is through restoring the monarchy, ignoring both historical realities and the fact that Reza Pahlavi lacks the capability of his predecessors.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.treadstone71.com\/index.php\/component\/osdownloads\/general\/iranian-influence-operations?highlight=WyJyYWphdmkiXQ==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Social Media Manipulation<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 \u201cPahlavi supporters, using the vast wealth smuggled out of Iran by the Shah, operate numerous social media accounts that repetitively push their agenda.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exploiting Public Discontent<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cMonarchists position themselves as saviors during times of unrest, despite failing to offer any clear plan for the country\u2019s future.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By highlighting the monarchist&#8217;s incapability of any serious political action, <em>Vatan-e Emrooz<\/em> reinforces the regime\u2019s long-standing tactic: painting any opposition movement as either ineffective or as foreign puppets.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In his litany of lies against Iran\u2019s principal opposition group, like other Tehran pundits and \u201cfriendly journalists,\u201d Reza Pahlavi relied on sources like the regime\u2019s state media and officials to accuse the MEK <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/No2ShahNo2Mullahs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#No2ShahNo2Mullahs<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uxbVX65FgO\">https:\/\/t.co\/uxbVX65FgO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1633207936892715011?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">An Admission of the Regime\u2019s Strategy<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Perhaps the most revealing passage of the article comes at the conclusion, where the paper states, \u201cDespite their lack of impact, monarchist activities can actually be an opportunity for the Islamic Republic. A weak rival is always a blessing for governments.\u201d This is a rare and explicit acknowledgment that the regime benefits from keeping the monarchy alive as a controlled opposition\u2014one that is too weak to challenge its rule but strong enough to serve as a distraction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the article harshly criticizes monarchists, its subtext is clear: they are not the true threat to the regime. In a telling remark, the paper states, \u201cEven Iran\u2019s adversaries have realized this reality and are now placing more hope in the terrorist hypocrites (the regime\u2019s pejorative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/questioning-irans-obsession-the-meks-rise-as-a-national-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to defame the MEK<\/a>) than in the monarchists.\u201d The very act of publishing this statement suggests the regime\u2019s greater concern over alternative opposition groups, particularly those advocating for an organized, modern resistance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ultimately, <em>Vatan-e Emrooz<\/em>\u00a0inadvertently reveals the regime\u2019s larger strategy\u2014permitting a weak opposition to exist while aggressively undermining any genuine alternative.
