Despite grandiose displays, including missile exhibitions, staged rallies, and fiery speeches, the regime\u2019s show of force was undercut by growing discontent and visible signs of desperation.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Manufactured Displays of Strength<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">State-organized marches took place across major cities, with officials delivering defiant speeches aimed at reassuring a demoralized base. In Tehran\u2019s Azadi Square, the regime\u2019s President <a href=\"https:\/\/president.ir\/fa\/157406\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Masoud Pezeshkian declared<\/a>, \u201cThis is our Iran, and under the leadership of the Supreme Leader, we will stand against tyranny and oppression.\u201d His speech, however, was filled with contradictions as he simultaneously decried U.S. policies while acknowledging the regime\u2019s economic and diplomatic isolation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pezeshkian took direct aim at former U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of hypocrisy: \u201cTrump claims he wants to negotiate, yet at the same time, he signs every possible measure to bring our revolution to its knees.\u201d Meanwhile, in Hamedan, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi framed Iran\u2019s worsening economic struggles as part of a broader Western conspiracy. \u201cWe are facing a U.S. administration that has revived maximum pressure against Iran while falsely pretending to be open to dialogue,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Parallels and Contrasts Between 1979 and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>\u2019s New Revolution<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nX0AgU8Cig\">https:\/\/t.co\/nX0AgU8Cig<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1888996358654206055?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Referring to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei\u2019s long-standing opposition to negotiations under pressure, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khabaronline.ir\/news\/2023208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Araghchi reiterated<\/a> that Iran would not engage in what he called \u201csurrender talks.\u201d He added, \u201cNo free nation would ever negotiate under coercion, and the Iranian people will never bow to such tactics.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Escalating Calls for Mobilization<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The day\u2019s events were not limited to diplomatic posturing. In Golestan province, Ali-Malek Shahkouhi, commander of the IRGC\u2019s Neynava division,<a href=\"https:\/\/golestanema.com\/news\/%D9%81%D8%B1%D9%87%D9%86%DA%AF%DB%8C%20%D9%88%20%D9%87%D9%86%D8%B1%DB%8C\/%D9%86%D8%A8%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%AF-%D9%85%DB%8C%D8%AF%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%B1%D8%A7-%D8%A8%D8%B1%D8%A7%DB%8C-%D8%AF%D8%B4%D9%85%D9%86-%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%84%DB%8C-%DA%A9%D8%B1%D8%AF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> issued a rallying cry<\/a> to regime loyalists: \u201cIf you are a fighter, a soldier, a cleric, a professor\u2014where are you now? The enemy is in the field with all its might, and we must not retreat.\u201d His speech reflected increasing concerns within the ranks of Iran\u2019s security establishment about waning morale and participation among its supporters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you face ridicule, if they mock you, if they call you names, know that this struggle has a price, and that price is worth it,\u201d Shahkouhi added, recognizing the growing public cynicism and disenchantment among regime sympathizers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a>: Chants Against <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Khamenei?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Khamenei<\/a> Erupt Across Cities on Revolution Anniversary<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RdnsAhZyrY\">https:\/\/t.co\/RdnsAhZyrY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1888849645729628212?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Symbolic Displays and Propaganda Tactics<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an attempt to reinforce <a href=\"https:\/\/akharinkhabar.ir\/photo\/10398825\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anti-Western sentiment<\/a>, the Tehran rally featured symbolic stunts, including individuals wearing Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu masks, locked in a mock prison cell. Organizers also paraded coffins draped with Israeli flags and staged the now-routine burning of U.S. and British flags.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took center stage in the rally\u2019s military showcase, unveiling drones and ballistic missiles, including the Khorramshahr missile, which the regime claims has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasnimnews.com\/fa\/news\/1403\/11\/22\/3255285\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">range of 2,000 kilometers<\/a> and can carry a 1,800-kilogram warhead. These displays, however, failed to overshadow the increasing struggles the regime faces domestically.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the orchestrated demonstrations, many Iranians made their voices heard in a very different way. On the night of February 9, ahead of the anniversary celebrations, residents in several cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Kermanshah, and Arak, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/iran-protests-chants-against-khamenei-erupt-across-cities-on-revolution-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took to their rooftops<\/a> and streets chanting anti-regime slogans such as <em>\u201cDeath to the dictator\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cKhamenei, have some shame\u2014look at Bashar al-Assad.\u201d<\/em> Video footage circulating online showed widespread expressions of dissent, further undermining the regime\u2019s narrative of national unity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 1979 revolution anniversary also coincided with alarming economic developments. The national currency continued its steep decline, with the U.S. dollar reaching an all-time high of 94,000 tomans. Meanwhile, negotiations between Tehran and Washington remained at a standstill, with Khamenei himself dismissing renewed talks as neither \u201crational\u201d nor \u201chonorable.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>&#39;s Currency and Gold Prices Surge Amid Escalating Tensions with the West<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0REyGIQsCt\">https:\/\/t.co\/0REyGIQsCt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1888546919107961218?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even within the government, there were acknowledgments of the country\u2019s dire situation. Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khabaronline.ir\/news\/2023058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mohammad Reza Aref stated<\/a>, \u201cNegotiations are a two-way street, and both sides must benefit. At this moment, we see no benefit in engaging with the U.S.\u201d This marked a rare moment of candor, exposing divisions within the regime over how to handle its mounting crises.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beyond Theatrics<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While Iranian leaders sought to use the 1979 revolution anniversary to showcase resilience, the reality on the ground told a different story. The gap between the regime\u2019s narrative and the people\u2019s lived experiences has never been wider. As more Iranians openly express their frustration, and as the economic and diplomatic crises deepen, the regime\u2019s reliance on hollow slogans and forced displays of unity appears increasingly unsustainable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Iranian people\u2019s growing defiance\u2014expressed through street protests, economic discontent, and outright rejection of state propaganda\u2014signals that the regime\u2019s control is more fragile than ever.
