US Sanctions Huthi Leadership After Reimposing Terrorist Designation<\/h3>\n

Agence France Presse (AFP) –\u00a0<\/strong>The United States on Wednesday sanctioned seven Huthi leaders and an individual who sent Yemeni civilians to fight for Russia in Ukraine, a day after reimposing a terrorist designation against the Yemeni militant group.<\/p>\n

The Iran-backed rebels control much of Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, and have launched missile and drone attacks at Israel since the war in Gaza broke out in October 2023.<\/p>\n

The seven sanctioned leaders “have smuggled military-grade items and weapon systems into Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and also negotiated Houthi weapons procurements from Russia,” the US Treasury Department said in a statement, using an alternative spelling for the group.<\/p>\n

EU Condemns Iran\u2019s Nuclear Escalation, Warns of Proliferation Risks at IAEA Meetings<\/h3>\n

The European Union has issued a strong warning over the Iranian regime\u2019s nuclear advancements, citing growing concerns about proliferation risks and Tehran\u2019s lack of cooperation with the IAEA. At the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on March 4<\/a>, the EU condemned Iran\u2019s continued nuclear escalation, stating that \u201cthe risk of a nuclear proliferation crisis in the region is increasing as a result of Iran\u2019s escalating nuclear trajectory.\u201d The EU highlighted Iran\u2019s accumulation of more than six significant quantities of 60% enriched uranium, warning that such actions \u201ccarry very significant proliferation-related risks and raise grave concerns about Iran\u2019s intentions, since they have no credible civilian justification.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EU also criticized Tehran\u2019s obstruction of IAEA oversight, particularly the removal of monitoring equipment and the rejection of experienced inspectors. \u201cThe Agency has lost and will not be able to restore continuity of knowledge and is unable to provide assurance of the peaceful nature of Iran\u2019s nuclear programme,\u201d the EU stated<\/a>. On March 5, the EU reiterated its deep concern over Iran\u2019s failure to clarify outstanding safeguards issues, stressing that the IAEA \u201cis not in a position to provide assurance that Iran\u2019s nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful.\u201d Despite five Board resolutions, the clerical regime has not provided full and technically credible explanations for nuclear-related activities at multiple undeclared locations, further exacerbating international concerns.<\/p>\n

The EU urged Tehran to immediately reverse course by ceasing its nuclear escalation, restoring IAEA monitoring, and complying with its safeguards obligations. It also called for the IAEA\u2019s findings to be made public, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and the need for full transparency.<\/p>\n

U.S. Warns Iran Over Nuclear Escalation at IAEA Board Meeting<\/h3>\n

At the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting in Vienna, U.S. Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires Howard Solomon issued a stark warning<\/a> about the Iranian regime\u2019s nuclear activities, describing them as \u201cextremely alarming\u201d and a direct threat to international security.<\/p>\n

Solomon condemned Tehran\u2019s continued production of highly enriched uranium\u2014surpassing 80% purity\u2014despite not possessing nuclear weapons. \u201cIran is the only country in the world producing highly enriched uranium without a nuclear arsenal,\u201d he emphasized, calling Tehran\u2019s actions either an attempt to extort the international community or a dangerous step toward nuclear weaponization. \u201cThis is a very dangerous strategy for Iran. We will not be extorted,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The U.S. representative also denounced the regime\u2019s restrictions on IAEA inspections and its decision to revoke the designation of inspectors after they detected undeclared modifications to advanced centrifuges at the Fordow facility. \u201cIran should be increasing transparency, not reducing it. It should be fulfilling its safeguards obligations, not undermining the Agency\u2019s verification,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Solomon urged Tehran to reverse its nuclear escalations and fully comply with the IAEA if it genuinely seeks a diplomatic resolution. \u201cIf Iran wants a deal, the path starts with ceasing its escalatory activities and building international confidence,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

The United States formally requested that the IAEA\u2019s report on Iran\u2019s nuclear program be made public, vowing to closely monitor Tehran\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
