The clerical dictatorship, struggling with widespread discontent, aimed to rally its demoralized forces by staging grandiose public displays and promoting combative rhetoric through its top officials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The regime\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in his <a href=\"https:\/\/farsi.khamenei.ir\/message-content?id=59867\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarks broadcast on state TV<\/a> on March 27, claimed that the Quds Day marches would counter the narratives portraying the regime as weak and divided. He stated: \u201cYour march on Quds Day will nullify the conspiracies and lies of those who seek to present the system as weak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The reality, however, tells a different story. Despite the regime\u2019s propaganda efforts, the Iranian society remains deeply restless, as demonstrated time and again through nationwide uprisings, daily protests by workers, teachers, and other social groups, as well as the nightly activities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/iranian-resistance-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI-led Resistance Units<\/a>. The orchestrated rallies, heavily advertised and aired on state media, are aimed at displaying social capital, but they starkly contrast with the public\u2019s defiant actions witnessed in protests across the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: Tehran Stages Security Drill Amid Fear of Renewed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Protests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Protests<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2KNIY4x7NU\">https:\/\/t.co\/2KNIY4x7NU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1902447734562418878?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the Quds Day ceremonies, regime officials, including Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Yahya Rahim Safavi, former IRGC commander-in-chief, and Basij chief Mohammad Reza Naqdi, were all dispatched to regurgitate well-worn threats against the West and promises of retaliation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/telewebion.com\/episode\/0x122db108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghalibaf echoed<\/a> Khamenei\u2019s desperation, claiming that Iran would not surrender to Western demands for disarmament. \u201cNegotiation accompanied by threats is just a facade for coercion,\u201d he ranted, adding, \u201cAccepting enemy demands under pressure is a prelude to war.\u201d Ghalibaf went on to boast about the regime\u2019s so-called \u201cresistance\u201d against American policies, while hinting at an alleged Western plot to force Iran\u2019s submission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Basij chief Naqdi and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasnimnews.com\/fa\/news\/1404\/01\/08\/3282361\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRGC commander Safavi<\/a>, meanwhile, tried to boost the morale of their decaying forces with rhetoric about mobilizing for \u201cgreat operations\u201d against supposed enemies. Naqdi went so far as to claim that youth across Iran were <em>\u201crestlessly demanding\u201d<\/em> to be sent to the \u201cbattlefields of resistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: IRGC Stages Massive Drill in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Tehran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tehran<\/a> Amid Fear of Uprising<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Rd1fDhqcIR\">https:\/\/t.co\/Rd1fDhqcIR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1876924305331912989?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Simultaneously, the regime appears to be sending mixed messages to an increasingly disillusioned public. In a calculated move, the regime reportedly signaled through state media that its controversial hijab enforcement law is off the agenda, at least temporarily, as a means of pacifying widespread discontent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This hollow gesture follows the regime\u2019s violent crackdown on a weeks-long sit-in by hardline hijab supporters in front of the Iranian parliament. Video footage from social media showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entekhab.ir\/fa\/news\/858299\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">security forces dispersing<\/a> the protestors and allegedly abandoning them in remote areas near Tehran, with some injured during the operation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to reports from state-run media, a spokesman for the regime\u2019s Parliament\u2019s Coordination Office acknowledged the crackdown but attempted to dismiss the incident as \u201cnecessary action\u201d against what they described as an illegal gathering. As Khamenei\u2019s call for mass participation failed to materialize, the hollow rhetoric of its officials only further highlights the depth of the regime\u2019s desperation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, international pressure continues to mount, with reports emerging of further sanctions and diplomatic isolation aimed at curbing the regime\u2019s nuclear ambitions and support for terrorism.
