The resolution, titled &#8220;Protecting the Iranian political refugees, including female former political prisoners, in Ashraf-3 in Albania&#8221;, was submitted to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on March 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"1183\">The resolution underscores the need for &#8220;prompt and appropriate steps&#8221; to guarantee the safety and fundamental rights of Iranian dissidents now living in Ashraf-3, many of whom were formerly imprisoned in Iran for opposing the theocratic regime. Among them are over 900 women and men who survived torture and bear witness to atrocities, including the 1988 massacre of political prisoners\u2014a crime in which the Iranian regime&#8217;s president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/who-is-ebrahim-raisi-ncr-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> has been implicated.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/American?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#American<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenThomTillis?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenThomTillis<\/a> highlights bipartisan support for Ashraf 3 and calls for ongoing protection and support. We must ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Albania?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Albania<\/a> and Ashraf 3 remain safe as we push for change, he urges. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HTxHglLfGM\">pic.twitter.com\/HTxHglLfGM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1825110396539375913?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 18, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1392\">According to the resolution, &#8220;these witnesses must be fully protected for potential testimonies before international courts investigating the 1988 massacre and other grave human rights violations in Iran.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1715\">Senators emphasized that the Iranian regime, which the resolution describes as \u201cthe world\u2019s leading state sponsor of terrorism,\u201d has escalated its malign activities, including cyberattacks against Albania in December 2023 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/uk-parliament-committee-raises-alarm-over-transnational-repression-targeting-activists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">misuse of INTERPOL Red Notices<\/a> in an attempt to silence and repatriate dissidents abroad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1717\" data-end=\"2082\">The measure also condemns the regime\u2019s threats against Albanian sovereignty and calls out the \u201csham trials in absentia\u201d launched by Tehran targeting 104 members of the Iranian Resistance in Europe, including Ashraf-3. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/demonizing-mek\/iranian-regimes-mock-court-reveals-deep-seated-anxiety-over-mek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">These trials<\/a>, the resolution warns, are intended to create false legal precedents to facilitate extraditions or justify potential terror attacks.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Former ICC President Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EboeOsuji?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@EboeOsuji<\/a> confirms ICC jurisdiction over crimes against <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MEK?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MEK<\/a> in Albania and France if local authorities don&#39;t act.
