The decision, confirmed this week, comes amid international outcry and growing evidence of severe due process violations in Iran\u2019s revolutionary courts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"493\" data-end=\"875\">Ehsani was arrested in November 2022 at the height of the nationwide uprising and held in Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison under the control of the Ministry of Intelligence. After enduring three and a half months of torture, extended solitary confinement, and coerced interrogations, he was transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison in January 2025, where he remains under constant threat of execution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"1385\">On April 21, attorney Adel Ahmadian announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the judiciary had rejected Ehsani\u2019s request for a retrial without even reviewing the original case file from Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/anews\/who-is-who\/who-is-iman-afshari-a-profile-of-irans-notorious-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notorious judge Iman Afshari<\/a>. The same court had sentenced Ehsani to death in September 2024 on charges of \u201cbaghi\u201d (armed rebellion), \u201cmoharebeh\u201d (waging war against God), \u201cefsad fil-arz\u201d (corruption on earth), and membership in the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">European Parliament Condemns <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>\u2019s Execution Spree and Death Sentences of Activists Ehsani and Hasani<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OAi6U4jDXF\">https:\/\/t.co\/OAi6U4jDXF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1907903538791067923?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 3, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1755\">Ehsani, a father of two and caretaker for his elderly mother, had no access to a fair trial. According to human rights groups, he was denied meaningful legal representation and forced to confess under duress. He now joins the growing list of older political prisoners\u2014some in their 60s and 70s\u2014being targeted in the Iranian regime\u2019s ruthless campaign to crush dissent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"2092\">In January 2025,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org.uk\/urgent-actions\/two-men-risk-execution-after-torture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Amnesty International called<\/a> for an immediate halt to the execution of Behrouz Ehsani and his co-defendant Mehdi Hassani, stating both men had been subjected to torture and denied basic fair trial standards. Amnesty warned that proceeding with their executions would amount to an \u201cirreversible miscarriage of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2094\" data-end=\"2347\">Despite international pressure, Iranian authorities have refused to reverse course. At 70 years old, he is a <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/news\/behrouz-ehsani-pmoi-supporter-on-death-row-sends-message-from-inside-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">symbol of resistance<\/a>, and his execution would serve only as a chilling message to others demanding freedom and accountability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2645\" data-end=\"2877\">Global human rights organizations, UN mechanisms, and Western governments must act now\u2014publicly and decisively\u2014to halt Ehsani\u2019s execution and pressure Tehran to end its weaponization of the death penalty against political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2879\" data-end=\"2931\">Time is running out.
