WASHINGTON \u2014 Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is designating six entities and six individuals based in Iran and the People\u2019s Republic of China (PRC) for their role in a network procuring ballistic missile propellant ingredients on behalf of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).\u00a0 This network has facilitated the procurement of sodium perchlorate and dioctyl sebacate from the PRC to Iran.\u00a0 Sodium perchlorate is used to produce ammonium perchlorate, which is controlled by the\u00a0Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR)<\/a>, a multilateral political understanding among states that seek to limit the proliferation of missiles and missile technology. \u00a0Both ammonium perchlorate and dioctyl sebacate are chemicals usable in solid propellant rocket motors, which are commonly used for ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n

Labour MPs Call for Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Be Proscribed as Terrorists<\/h3>\n

Labour Friends of Israel (LFI) has urged ministers to step up their response to the IRGC, warning that\u00a0it is\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cpropagating antisemitism\u201d and \u201cplotting to murder dissidents and journalists\u201d on British soil.<\/p>\n

Iran<\/a>‘s regime has been formally accused of orchestrating assassination attempts on European soil, in a revelation that has triggered renewed calls for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be designated a terrorist organisation. The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) announced in a recent annual report on Thursday that Iran was “likely responsible” for two separate attempts to assassinate Iranian dissidents in\u00a0Europe<\/a>. The findings have prompted the\u00a0Netherlands<\/a>\u00a0to summon Tehran’s ambassador for an official reprimand.<\/p>\n

In June 2024, Dutch police arrested two suspects in Haarlem in connection with a failed plot to kill an Iranian dissident residing there. One of the men is also linked to the near-fatal shooting of Professor Alejo Vidal-Quadras, a Spanish politician and nuclear physicist, in Madrid last November. Vidal-Quadras, a former Vice President of the European Parliament and a longstanding critic of Iran’s clerical regime, was shot at point-blank range near his home in Madrid.<\/p>\n

France Warns of Sanctions on Iran if Nuclear Deal Not Reached<\/h3>\n

France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will not hesitate to reimpose sanctions against Tehran if European security is threatened by Iran’s nuclear program, the French foreign minister said at the United Nations on Monday.<\/p>\n

“Iran has crossed all the boundaries it had committed to respect,” and the country” is on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons,” Jean-No\u00ebl Barrot told reporters after a closed-door meeting of the Security Council on non-proliferation, which he had convened.<\/p>\n

“There is no military solution to the Iranian nuclear problem. There is a diplomatic path to achieve it, but it is a narrow road,” he added.<\/p>\n

Barrot voiced hope that the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington on the issue would bear fruit, adding that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom were in “close contact”\u00a0 with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n

Missile Fuel from China \u2018Caused Iran Port Explosion\u2019<\/h3>\n

A\u00a0deadly explosion at Iran\u2019s largest port<\/a>\u00a0is believed to have been caused by missile fuel ingredients sent by China.<\/p>\n

At least 40 people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured in the blast in\u00a0Shahid Rajaei port<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, which the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency said was likely triggered by containers of chemicals.<\/p>\n

The agency did not specify which chemicals they were but it was reported in January that China was to ship sodium perchlorate, a common missile fuel component, to Iran after its supplies ran low following\u00a0attacks on Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n
