Yet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/demonizing-mek\/iranian-regimes-mock-court-reveals-deep-seated-anxiety-over-mek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sham proceedings<\/a> \u2014 now well into their second year \u2014 increasingly appear designed not for legal resolution but as a political tool to discredit a growing opposition movement that continues to resonate with Iran\u2019s restless population, especially its youth.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irna.ir\/news\/85817412\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The so-called trial<\/a>, held at Branch 11 of Tehran\u2019s Criminal Court and presided over by Judge Amir-Reza Dehghani, once again targeted not just individuals but the PMOI as a legal entity \u2014 a shift from prosecution to full delegitimization. \u201cUntil the legal personality of this organization is dissolved,\u201d said Masoud Maddah, lawyer for the so-called plaintiffs, \u201cthese crimes will continue.\u201d The statement set the tone for a session that blurred the line between lawfare and state messaging.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Court Claims Host Governments Are Complicit<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One of the most striking developments in this session was the direct accusation leveled at Western governments \u2014 particularly France \u2014\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to for granting political asylum and protection to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> PMOI members. \u201cHosting individuals accused of terrorism when a competent court is reviewing their cases constitutes a crime under international law,\u201d Judge Dehghani declared, referencing unspecified provisions of international conventions. Since its removal from these lists, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/global-support-statements\/iran-4000-legislators-from-50-countries-endorse-maryam-rajavis-10-point-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thousands of lawmakers<\/a> worldwide have publicly endorsed the NCRI and the PMOI each year, recognizing them as legitimate democratic alternatives. Judge Dehghani portrayed this influx as evidence of public demand for justice: \u201cToday, you are before the people of Iran,\u201d he said, addressing the absent defendants.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Regime Confronting Its Own Image<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While Tehran seeks to portray the court as an overdue reckoning for violence and disruption, the broader context complicates this narrative.
