Citing earlier promises from ministers, she asked: \u201cThe IRGC is behaving like a terrorist organisation and must now be proscribed as such\u2026 If now is not the time for proscription, when should the House expect a further update?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UK?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#UK<\/a> Parliament Condemns Clerical Regime\u2019s Role in Regional Destabilization Amid Houthi Strikes<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/J3HIOX99WS\">https:\/\/t.co\/J3HIOX99WS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1918391521302208646?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 2, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1926\">Labour\u2019s <strong>Jon Pearce<\/strong> echoed the call for action, warning that \u201ccharities in the UK [are] being used as vehicles for the funding and organisation of terrorism\u201d linked to Iran. He urged the government to \u201cset out what steps are being taken to stop that organisation\u201d and to conduct an audit of regime-linked assets in the UK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"2180\">Former Prime Minister <strong>Rishi Sunak<\/strong> described the Iranian regime as a \u201cstate sponsor of terrorism\u201d and called on the UK to press European allies to impose renewed sanctions: \u201cThis state sponsor of terrorism cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2449\">Throughout the debate, MPs warned of the Iranian regime\u2019s campaign of transnational repression targeting dissidents abroad. <strong>Barry Gardiner<\/strong> highlighted fears among Iranian exiles, noting that Tehran \u201cmay use pressure\u201d on families of Iranian nationals living in the UK.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: UK Parliament Report Highlights Regime&#39;s Diminishing Influence in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MiddleEast?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MiddleEast<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FAXf5AXz16\">https:\/\/t.co\/FAXf5AXz16<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1885039527007576161?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 30, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2451\" data-end=\"2917\"><strong>Jim Shannon<\/strong>, DUP MP for Strangford, delivered an impassioned defense of the Iranian diaspora, calling the clerical regime \u201cdecadent, violent, and evil.\u201d He warned that Iranians who fled to the UK \u201cby the skin of their teeth\u201d continue to face threats from Tehran\u2019s agents, and he urged the government to guarantee protection for Iranian dissidents in Britain: \u201cThey have genuine fears and concerns\u2026 The regime is so decadent, violent, and evil, they cannot return.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2919\" data-end=\"3189\"><strong>Paul Waugh<\/strong>, MP for Rochdale, framed the struggle against Tehran as part of a broader global fight: \u201cBritain is at war with a modern enemy: the fascism of Islamist extremism and state-sponsored terrorism. We will never surrender to such terrorism or to its ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3516\">Calls for proscribing the IRGC dominated the debate, as MPs expressed frustration at delays.
