UN Nuclear Watchdog\u2019s Board of Governors Finds Iran Isn\u2019t Complying with Its Nuclear Obligations<\/h3>\n

VIENNA (AP) \u2014 The U.N. nuclear watchdog\u2019s board of governors on Thursday formally found that Iran isn\u2019t complying with its\u00a0nuclear obligations<\/a>\u00a0for the first time in 20 years, a move that could lead to further tensions and set in motion an effort to restore United Nations sanctions on Tehran later this year.<\/p>\n

Iran reacted immediately, saying it will establish a new enrichment facility after the vote against it. The announcement said the facility will be \u201cin a secure location\u201d and that \u201cother measures are also being planned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran has no choice but to respond to this political resolution,\u201d the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said in a joint statement announcing the decision.<\/p>\n

US Defense Chief Says There Are ‘Plenty of Indications’ Iran Is Moving Toward Nuclear Weapon<\/h3>\n

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Wednesday there are “plenty of indications” that Iran is moving toward developing a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n

“There are plenty of indications that they have been moving their way towards something that would look a lot like a nuclear weapon,” Hegseth said at a hearing when asked by Sen. Lindsey Graham whether Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon versus a peaceful nuclear power program.<\/p>\n

His remarks came during his testimony before the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee along with Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.<\/p>\n

Former CIA Analyst Sentenced to Over Three Years in Prison for Unlawfully Transmitting Top Secret National Defense Information<\/h3>\n

A former CIA analyst was sentenced today to 37 months in prison for unlawfully retaining and transmitting Top Secret National Defense Information to people who were not entitled to receive it, information which was publicly posted on social media platforms in October 2024.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, Asif William Rahman, 34, of Vienna, was an employee of the CIA since 2016 and had a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) until his employment was terminated after his arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor months, this defendant betrayed the American people and the oaths he took upon entering his office by leaking some of our Nation\u2019s most closely held secrets,\u201d said John Eisenberg, Assistant Attorney General for National Security. \u201cAs this case demonstrates, the Department of Justice will continue to protect our nation by vigorously investigating and prosecuting leakers who compromise our nation\u2019s security.\u201d<\/p>\n

US, European Powers Submit Iran Resolution at UN Nuclear Agency: Diplomats<\/h3>\n

Agence France Presse (AFP) – European powers and the United States submitted a resolution to the UN’s nuclear watchdog board on Tuesday condemning Iran’s “non-compliance” with its nuclear obligations, in a bid to up pressure on Tehran, diplomats told AFP.<\/p>\n

It is the latest move in a years-long effort to restrict Iran’s nuclear activities over fears that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons, which it denies.<\/p>\n

The diplomatic manoeuvre comes as the United States and Tehran have held several rounds of talks mediated by Oman, aimed at securing an agreement on limiting Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.<\/p>\n

“The text has been submitted,” three diplomatic sources told AFP on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
