Parliamentary Under-Secretary <strong>Hamish Falconer<\/strong> recited the charge sheet: drones and ballistic missiles shipped by Iran\u2019s regime to Russia for use against Ukraine; weapons, cash and training funneled to Hezbollah, Hamas and Yemen\u2019s Houthis; and an undeclared presence of IRGC advisers across several fronts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Liberal Democrat <strong>Monica Harding<\/strong> warned that the regime is \u201cutterly committed\u201d to exporting conflict, underscoring cross-party alarm. MPs asked what further protection and prosecutions will follow; ministers referred to the first National Security Act cases and pledged the \u201cfull force of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the government claims that the IRGC is already sanctioned \u201cin its entirety\u201d under UK regulations, many MPs argued that only outright proscription under terrorism law\u2014or the forthcoming \u201cstate-threats proscription-like tool\u201d recommended by reviewer Jonathan Hall KC\u2014can close legal loopholes. Falconer highlighted a sanctions tally exceeding 450 regime-linked listings and acknowledged a gap when the perpetrator is a <em>state<\/em> body that acts like a terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Back-benchers pressed for decisive action before further plots materialize. Veteran security chair <strong>Sir Julian Lewis<\/strong> asked whether 60 percent enrichment has any civilian justification; Falconer conceded it \u201chas no obvious civilian purpose.\u201d MPs from both sides urged the Government to trigger the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europeans-tell-un-ready-snap-back-iran-sanctions-if-needed-2024-12-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201csnap-back\u201d clause<\/a>, which would automatically restore UN embargoes suspended since 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister confirmed London is in talks with Paris, Berlin and Washington, calling snap-back \u201can important lever\u201d if Tehran refuses to readmit IAEA inspectors expelled after the US\u2013Israeli strikes on 22 June.
