Meanwhile, there is near-total silence surrounding the staggering number of executions carried out by the clerical regime against its own citizens\u2014figures that continue to rise and cannot be ignored. Since its founding in the 1979 Revolution, this regime has been defined by its use of brutal internal repression to silence any threat to its authority.<\/p>\n

This was evident in the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, killed by Tehran\u2019s morality police in September 2022, when Iranians flooded the streets of all 31 provinces. According to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)\u2014a coalition of pro-democracy opposition groups led by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK)\u2014around 750 protesters were killed during the 2022 uprising. During that period, more than 30,000 people were arrested\u2014a figure that was later effectively confirmed by Iranian state media. The subsequent judicial proceedings led to an unspecified number of death sentences, with about a dozen executions already carried out.<\/p>\n

Proxies in Iraq are suspected of disrupting oil production in the Kurdish region, and shipments of hundreds of rockets bound for Hezbollah in Lebanon have been intercepted by Syrian forces over the past months.<\/p>\n

On 7 July 2025, the IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency published a brazen editorial titled\u00a0\u2018Why the 1988 Executions Should Be Repeated\u2019.\u00a0The piece glorified the 1988 massacre as a \u201csuccessful historical experience\u201d and advocated for its replication against today\u2019s political detainees.<\/p>\n

It framed dissent as terrorism and praised the mass killings as a \u201ccommendable judicial act\u201d, even invoking religious justifications to normalise state-sponsored murder.<\/p>\n
