The European Union sanctioned a prominent Iranian oil trader and several of his companies, part of its\u00a0latest round of measures<\/a>\u00a0targeting Russia over its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Hossein Shamkhani, whose father is a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah\u00a0Ali Khamenei, was\u00a0added<\/a>\u00a0to the bloc\u2019s sanctions list for his role in the Russian oil trade and as \u201ca central player\u201d in the country\u2019s so-called \u201cshadow fleet,\u201d the EU said. Yemen\u2019s Deputy Foreign Minister Mustapha Noman sharply criticized what he described as Iran\u2019s ongoing \u201chostile policies\u201d against the Yemeni people, accusing Tehran of persistently arming the Houthi movement with large quantities of weapons that prolong the country\u2019s devastating conflict.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Noman said Iran should have learned \u201charsh lessons\u201d from the thousands killed across the Arab world and the destruction of vital infrastructure that has drained regional resources. Instead, he said, Tehran continues to supply its allies with arms, fueling \u201cventures that bring misery to Yemenis.\u201d<\/p>\n

His remarks came two days after Yemen\u2019s National Resistance forces (NRF), led by Brig. Gen. Tariq Saleh, thwarted a major Iranian arms smuggling attempt off the coast of Hodeidah in western Yemen.<\/p>\n

Masouri, a supporter of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK), has been imprisoned for 25 years without a single day of furlough.
