As parts of Iran face unprecedented heatwaves with temperatures soaring above 50\u00b0C, the water and power crisis has reached a point where even regime officials can no longer conceal it or justify it with tired slogans. This time, warnings are coming from the highest levels of government\u2014not out of accountability, but as a desperate attempt to contain the fallout from decades of destructive policies that have pushed daily life to the brink.<\/p>\n

On July 20, 2025, Masoud Pezeshkian, the regime’s president, warned<\/a> that the water crisis is \u201cfar more serious than what is being publicly discussed,\u201d and added that without urgent action, the country will face a situation \u201cfor which no remedy can be found.\u201d Yet, like previous statements, this acknowledgment was followed not by solutions but by hollow rhetoric.<\/p>\n

In a sign of mounting panic, the government shut down Tehran on July 28, citing water and power shortages. Officials claimed the move saved 418,000 cubic meters of water and 19,000 megawatt-hours of electricity. With Karaj Dam\u2019s director warning power generation could stop within two weeks, authorities are weighing a week-long closure<\/a> or recurring shutdowns, exposing the clerical dictatorship\u2019s fear of unrest amid deadly heatwaves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

According to the regime\u2019s meteorological organization, cities like Ahvaz, Shush, Ramhormoz, Omidiyeh, and Shadegan have recorded temperatures above 50\u00b0C, with Omidiyeh peaking at 51.7\u00b0C. Alongside this unbearable heat, frequent blackouts and water cuts have turned life in Khuzestan, Ilam, Bushehr, and other southern provinces into a living hell.<\/p>\n

Hashem Khanfari, a regime parliament member from Shadegan, sharply rebuked the Energy Ministry, exclaiming, \u201cYou\u2019ve turned Khuzestan into hell!\u201d He attributed<\/a> the crisis not to resource shortages but to \u201cimbalanced management and the incompetence of your officials.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mounting social pressure has prompted rare confessions from other members of the regime\u2019s parliament. Mohammad-Reza Sabaghian described widespread power outages as having \u201ctaken people to their breaking point,\u201d adding, \u201cFarmers, workers, patients\u2014everyone is angry. And the energy minister hasn\u2019t even shown up in parliament to answer for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
