WASHINGTON, DC, DC, UNITED STATES, August 1, 2025 \u2014 The U.S. Representative Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI-US<\/a>), citing the joint statement issued by the United States, the United Kingdom, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden, condemning the Iranian regime\u2019s sustained state-directed threats and malign activities in Europe and North America, calls for specific measures to counter the Iranian regime\u2019s threat.<\/p>\n

This transatlantic stance is a key step in exposing and confronting the regime\u2019s long-standing campaign of terrorism and intimidation, targeting \u201cjournalists, dissidents, Jewish citizens, and current and former officials in Europe and North America.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Department of State on July 5, 2018, \u201cTwo Iranian operatives were arrested on charges of terrorism by Albanian authorities\u201d, for a bomb plot against the March 2018 New Year gathering of thousands of Iranian opposition members, the\u00a0MEK<\/a>, in Tirana. In December 2018, the Government of Albania expelled Iran\u2019s Ambassador, Gholamhossein Mohammadnia, and the MOIS station chief in Albania, Mostafa Roudaki, for planning terrorist activities against the members of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK). In January 2020, the Government of Albania expelled two other Iranian diplomats also for planning terrorist activities against the Iranian Resistance. The Albanian Government eventually closed the Iranian embassy in September 2022.<\/p>\n

Khosro Nikzat, president of the Association of Iranian Doctors and Pharmacists in Italy, has been an unrelenting voice for decades against repression in his homeland. On Thursday, August 31, he was among the key speakers at the international \u201cFree Iran 2025\u201d conference held in Rome, a global event that brought together prominent figures from the international political scene, including Rudolph Giuliani, Maryam Rajavi, Charles Michel, and Matteo Renzi.<\/p>\n

The day after the event, Nikzat gave an extensive interview to our newspaper. His words are clear, resolute, filled with passion and pain for a land he has not seen in 45 years but that remains central to his life and civic commitment:

Since the election of the so-called \u2018moderate\u2019 President Masoud Pezeshkian one year ago, executions have surged, with over 1,300 carried out, some 650 in 2025 alone. Now, in a frightening escalation, Fars News \u2013 a state-run agency linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)- has published an editorial praising the execution of over 30,000 political prisoners in 1988 in an article entitled \u2018Why the 1988 Executions Should Be Repeated\u2019. The article stated that dissident detainees pose a threat to national security and should therefore be eliminated.<\/p>\n

In a desperate act of state-sanctioned murder, the Iranian regime executed political prisoners and PMOI members Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani on July 27, 2025. This heinous crime was a calculated move by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to intimidate a restless population and silence the organized opposition.\u00a0But this strategy of terror has failed. Instead of crushing the will of the people, the executions have ignited a new fire of defiance across Iran. Within days, the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) Resistance Units mobilized, proving that the regime\u2019s gallows cannot extinguish the flame of resistance. Their swift and courageous actions, which have continued throughout the week, demonstrate that for every hero the regime murders, many more rise to continue their path toward a free Iran.<\/p>\n

Arrest of Mohammad Banazadeh Amirkhizi in Iran<\/h3>\n

In the ongoing escalation of repression against dissidents and political activists in Iran, Mohammad Banazadeh Amirkhizi, a former political prisoner and survivor from the families of victims of the 1980s executions, was arrested without a judicial warrant at his private residence in Tehran on the morning of Monday, July 28, 2025. He was taken to an undisclosed location. Reports indicate that he has been transferred to the Qom Intelligence Detention Center and is being held in solitary confinement, with no information available about his current condition.<\/p>\n

Mr. Banazadeh, 71 years old, suffers from serious health issues, including prostate cancer, heart problems, and a torn knee meniscus. His family has reported having no contact with him and being completely unaware of his situation. Holding someone with such medical conditions in solitary confinement during the summer heat, without access to proper healthcare, constitutes a clear case of cruelty and both physical and psychological torture.<\/p>\n

Water and Power Crisis in Iran Spurs Demand for Pumps and Storage Tanks<\/h3>\n

Iran is facing a worsening water and electricity crisis that has disrupted daily life and added to economic pressures. Persistent water shortages have prompted many residents to purchase high-cost water pumps, while frequent power outages have resulted in unplanned closures.<\/p>\n

In Tehran, reduced water availability has driven demand for pumps and storage tanks. Vendors are reportedly selling these products at prices up to 1.5 times higher than normal, and in some cases, refusing to sell them.<\/p>\n

Mehdi Azarnia, head of the Agricultural Machinery Trade Union, said: \u201cDemand for household water pumps has increased significantly.\u201d He noted that the situation has allowed some sellers to raise prices further.<\/p>\n

Majid Kavousifar: A Hero Who Mocked the Executioner\u2019s Gallows<\/h3>\n

On August 2, 2007, Majid Kavousifar was hanged by the repressive judiciary of Iran\u2019s regime\u2014with a smile on his face. Majid was a young man who, on August 2, 2005, shot and killed Hassan Ahmadi Moghaddas\u2014Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran and Head of the Ershad Judiciary Complex (the so-called Morality Prosecutor\u2019s Office on Vozara Street)\u2014on Bucharest Street in Tehran. Moghaddas was responsible for the imprisonment, torture, and execution of many people and political and social activists. After fleeing the country, Majid and his nephew Hossein Kavousifar went to the United Arab Emirates and sought asylum at the U.S. embassy. However, embassy officials handed them over to Emirati police, who in turn extradited them to the Iranian regime.\u00a0Following his extradition, the Iranian regime sentenced Majid Kavousifar to death in a show trial. Exactly two years after the killing of Hassan Ahmadi Moghaddas, on the same date, he was hanged.<\/p>\n

Air Pollution in Tehran Claimed 6,000 Lives Last Year<\/h3>\n

Media outlets in Iran reported that air pollution in the capital claimed the lives of 6,000 Tehran residents last year. The state-run news website Etemad Online wrote on Friday, August 1: \u201cAir pollution is a long-standing issue for Tehran residents; in the first half of the year, they grapple with dust storms, and in the second half, with temperature inversion.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to data from the Tehran Air Quality Control Company, the capital experienced only six days of clean air between March 21 and July 27. During the same period, there were 75 days of moderate air quality, 39 days classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups, five days as unhealthy for all groups, and three days as very unhealthy and hazardous.<\/p>\n

Thousands of Unemployed Nurses Show Little Interest in Job Postings<\/h3>\n

Mohammad Sharifi Moghadam, the Secretary-General of Iran\u2019s Nurses\u2019 Home, stated that \u201cthousands of nurses are unemployed\u201d and despite the large number of unemployed nursing graduates, there is very little interest in official job advertisements in major cities. He said no candidates have yet come forward for the recruitment of 10,000 to 12,000 nurses. On Friday, August 2, Sharifi Moghadam told the state-run ILNA news agency that the \u201cuncontrolled expansion of nursing school capacities\u201d in Iran does not help resolve the employment crisis among nurses. He reported that many nurses have migrated abroad and added, \u201cMany have chosen to stay home rather than work as nurses, and some have turned to other jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
