Iran\u2019s Current Uprising Places Regime Change Well Within Reach<\/h3>\n

Whenever unrest sparks in Iran, I suffer for my friends and family still living under the mullahs, yet I am also hopeful that the Iranian people will finally achieve victory over their oppressors. This has perhaps never been truer than in these last few weeks, as protests over the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the \u201cmorality police\u201d keep escalating.<\/p>\n

The protests began after her funeral in Kurdistan but have since spread to over 150 cities. As with previous uprisings, the spread has been fueled in part by a broad political message showing the vast demand for a regime change.<\/p>\n

Because of the violence that Mahsa endured due to her resistance, the initial focus was women\u2019s rights, but the relevant issues proved to be inseparable from the general ideological divide between the mullahs and the Iranian people. Women have been chanting slogans such as \u201cDown with Khamenei (the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader)\u201d and \u201cDeath to the Dictator.\u201d<\/p>\n

The recent surge in executions is not merely a continuation of the regime\u2019s brutal policies, but a chilling echo of one of its darkest chapters \u2014 the 1988 massacre \u2014 and a clear signal that it is preparing for another slaughter of political prisoners. It was recently reported that, on Khamenei\u2019s orders, the regime has begun destroying and leveling Section 41 of the Behesht Zahra Cemetery \u2014 the burial site of thousands of members of the People\u2019s Mojahedin who were executed by Khomeini\u2019s henchmen during the 1980s.<\/p>\n
