NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1943740447748222977?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 11, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A key case cited in the report involved Hossein Abedini, Deputy Director of the National Council of Resistance of Iran\u2019s (NCRI) London Office, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/realspin\/2017\/02\/13\/why-iran-tried-to-assassinate-me-and-how-i-survived\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narrowly survived<\/a> an assassination attempt in Turkey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMr. Abedini was very nearly killed \u2014 not in the UK but in Turkey, which still constitutes transnational repression because he was not in Iran,\u201d Sobel explained. \u201cHe was only saved because the gun jammed on the third shot when he was attacked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jim Shannon MP (DUP), Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Freedom of Religion or Belief, raised concerns about Iran\u2019s targeting of opposition groups in exile, including supporters of NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavis-ten-point-plan-for-future-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ten-Point Plan<\/a> for a democratic Iran.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> News: UK Parliament Report Highlights Regime&#39;s Diminishing Influence in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MiddleEast?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MiddleEast<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FAXf5AXz16\">https:\/\/t.co\/FAXf5AXz16<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1885039527007576161?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 30, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am personally aware of some of the repression and spying that they experience,\u201d Shannon said, urging Parliament to take a firmer stance to protect Iranian activists living in the UK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Committee\u2019s report warned that Iran\u2019s repression extends beyond direct targets, creating a \u201cbroader chilling effect\u201d on entire communities and silencing activists who fear retaliation against their families abroad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report recommends expanding sanctions against Iranian officials, improving police training to identify and respond to such threats, and establishing a dedicated reporting hotline for victims. Sobel emphasized: \u201cTransnational repression undermines freedom of expression, assembly, and association.
