Following the 12-day war in June, repression inside Iran has intensified dramatically, with clear signs that the clerical dictatorship seeks to send a brutal warning to its own population. According to the head of Iran\u2019s judiciary, thousands have been arrested, and at least 15 individuals linked to the country\u2019s democratic opposition movement, the NCRI, have already been sentenced to death, with more verdicts expected soon.<\/p>\n

The regime-controlled Fars News Agency \u2014 run by the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) \u2014 has explicitly called for a new wave of executions, reminiscent of the 1988 massacre, when an estimated 30,000 political prisoners were executed within just three months.<\/p>\n

International observers are also sounding the alarm over the rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in Iran. Even before the recent conflict, the country was responsible for 64% of all recorded executions worldwide in 2024 \u2014 roughly 1,000 executions, according to Amnesty International\u2019s annual report. In May 2025 alone, 176 people were executed \u2014 averaging nearly six per day.<\/p>\n
