As someone who has spent a decade presiding over the Mother of Parliaments, I am acutely aware of the value of liberty, democracy and the rule of law. These are values too often taken for granted in established democracies but denied to millions who yearn for them. Among the most tragic examples is Iran, where\u00a0an oppressive theocracy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0has suffocated its people for more than four decades. And the issue is not solely a moral one. Iran has evolved into a major national security concern, even posing\u00a0a terrorism threat on our own soil<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Signs of dissent within Iran are growing, but after forty years of this regime some sceptics question whether meaningful change is possible. Yet repression is not a sign of strength. On the contrary, dictators rule with an iron fist precisely because they are weak. They kill, torture and silence dissent because they fear the potential of their own people. Iran today is a country on its knees: its economy is in freefall, its public services collapsed, and even basic necessities like water supply are unreliable. The clerical regime clings to power not through competence, but through cruelty.<\/p>\n

UN Security Council Votes Against Lifting Iran ‘Snapback’ Sanctions Ahead of Deadline<\/h3>\n

UNITED NATIONS \u2014 A U.N. Security Council resolution aimed at halting the reimposition of\u00a0sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program<\/a>\u00a0failed Friday after\u00a0weeks of last-ditch diplomatic talks appeared to break down<\/a>\u00a0days before the annual United Nations gathering of world leaders.<\/p>\n

The resolution put forth by South Korea, the current president of the 15-member council, did not garner the support of the nine countries required to halt the series of sanctions from taking effect at the end of the month, as outlined in Iran\u2019s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Rebellious Youth Mark Anniversary Of 2022 Uprising with Anti-Regime Operations<\/h3>\n

On the anniversary of the 2022 uprising, Iran\u2019s rebellious youth paid tribute to the 750 martyrs of the uprising, especially the heroes who were executed for retaliating against regime agents and setting fire to symbols of the ruling tyranny. They targeted the regime\u2019s centers of suppression and crime in cities across Iran.<\/p>\n

The rebellious youth carried out 25 operations in Tehran, Karaj, Savojbolagh, Isfahan, Mashhad, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Gorgan, Qazvin, Malayer, Shahr-e Rey, Rudbar, Kerman, Iranshahr, Birjand, and Bukan, while the regime was on full alert. They attacked regime centers, targeting the heart of the regime\u2019s repression and corruption, signaling the continuation of the uprising until victory:<\/p>\n

Iran: Zahra Fotouhi, 52, is Hanged in Tabriz Central Prison<\/h3>\n

The Iranian Judiciary had a 52-year-old woman called Zahra Fotouhi executed at dawn on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Tabriz Central Prison. Zahra Fotouhi had been arrested five years ago on charges of killing her ex-husband and detained under a death sentence. She was a victim of domestic violence and harassment from her ex-husband. With the execution of Zahra Fotouhi in Tabriz, the number of women executed in Iran since the beginning of 2025 has reached 35. In the past 50 days since July 30, at least 11 women have been executed in Iran under the misogynistic clerical regime.<\/p>\n
