From Rome to New York: The International Protest of Iranians Against the Regime<\/h3>\n

Many Iranians living in the Italian capital also took part in the demonstration to express their support for regime change in Iran and for Maryam Rajavi\u2019s ten-point plan.<\/p>\n

A large group of Iranian opponents of the regime set out from Rome for New York. Together with compatriots living in America and other countries worldwide, they joined yesterday\u2019s international rally to show their support for regime change in Iran and for the ten-point plan of Maryam Rajavi, the elected president of the NCRI, the National Council of Resistance of Iran. Rajavi declared: \u201cOur message for the future of Iran is simple: the sovereignty of the people, the republic of the people. We want neither a mullah nor a shah. The era of all forms of dictatorship, both religious and monarchical, is over. We will not return to the past, and we have risen up against the current religious dictatorship.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Protesters also denounced the ayatollahs\u2019 nuclear program as \u201ca real threat to global security\u201d<\/em> and objected to Iran\u2019s participation in the UN Assembly, calling for sanctions against the regime.<\/p>\n

By September 28, UN sanctions against the regime in Iran \u2014 those lifted after the 2015 nuclear agreement \u2014 could be reimposed. These include strict economic, military, and diplomatic measures. The background is, among other things, the regime\u2019s enrichment of uranium close to weapons-grade.\u00a0Such a decision would be a significant strategic defeat for the brutal clerical regime in Tehran, which has already been weakened in recent years. The regime has lost much of its influence in the region, and public discontent has never been higher. Iran is in an explosive situation.<\/p>\n

The democratic resistance movement NCRI, led by Maryam Rajavi, welcomes the activation of the snapback mechanism. Rajavi\u2019s ten-point plan for a democratic republic in Iran has gained broad international support \u2014 including from more than 4,000 parliamentarians worldwide, among them the majority in the Norwegian parliament (Stortinget).<\/p>\n

The statement read in part: \u201cThe brutal execution of Babak Shahbazi, one of the participants in the No to Execution Tuesday\u2019s campaign, without allowing a final meeting with his family, stands as a shocking example of inhuman conduct and a blatant violation of human rights by this regime. His secret transfer from the ward for execution prompted protests and a sit-in by his fellow inmates at Ghezel Hesar Prison.\u201d<\/p>\n
