Woman ‘Political Prisoner’ Dies in Iran after Jail Neglect<\/h3>\n

A woman held in prison in Iran for the past six months for writing anti-government slogans died Thursday after falling into a coma, rights groups said, accusing authorities of neglect.\u00a0Somayeh Rashidi, 42, died in hospital, state television said, adding her death was caused by medical problems that existed before her arrest in April.<\/p>\n

The Norway-based Hengaw rights group however said her illness and coma had been caused by the denial of medical treatment while held in Qarchak prison, a jail for women outside Tehran notorious for its poor conditions.<\/p>\n

It said she had been arrested for writing pro-protest slogans in a neighborhood of Tehran.<\/p>\n

Iran: Over 1,000 People Executed as Authorities Step Up Horrifying Assault on Right to Life<\/h3>\n

Iranian authorities have executed over 1,000 people thus far in 2025, the highest number of yearly executions in Iran that the organization has recorded in at least 15 years, said Amnesty International. The organization is calling on the Iranian authorities to establish an immediate moratorium on executions as a first step, and issuing an urgent plea on other states to immediately intervene to pressure the Iranian authorities to halt all planned executions.<\/p>\n

Within less than nine months, the number of people executed by the Iranian authorities so far this year has already surpassed last year\u2019s grim total of 972 executions.<\/p>\n

Fresh reports reveal that Sudabeh Asadi, an inmate jailed on financial charges, died at Qarchak Prison in Varamin, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, due to medical neglect and denial of treatment. Sudabeh Asadi reportedly endured days of pain and illness without being transferred to a medical facility outside the prison. Despite several days having passed, neither judicial authorities nor prison officials have offered any explanation for the cause of her death. Her death is widely seen as the direct consequence of inadequate medical facilities in Qarchak Prison and the deliberate delay in transferring her to a hospital.<\/p>\n
