WASHINGTON \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is designating 21 entities and 17 individuals involved in networks that facilitate the acquisition of sensitive goods and technology for Iran\u2019s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), as well as its missile and military aircraft production efforts.\u00a0 These networks have assisted in activities including the procurement of technology for advanced surface-to-air missile systems and the illicit purchase of a U.S.-manufactured helicopter.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s ballistic missile and conventional weapons capabilities, supported by the networks designated today, pose a significant threat to U.S. service members in the Middle East, U.S. commercial ships transiting international waters, and civilians.<\/p>\n

Japan Resumes Sanctions Against Iran in Line with U.N. Resolution<\/h3>\n

The government announced on Monday the resumption of economic sanctions against Iran, after the United Nations reimposed sanctions on the country over its nuclear development.\u00a0Based on a U.N. Security Council resolution, the government designated the assets of 78 organizations and 43 individuals to be frozen.\u00a0“The issue is now at a crossroads,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a news conference, underlining the importance of a diplomatic solution. “We shouldn’t lose opportunities for dialogue.”<\/p>\n

Iran has strongly opposed the U.N. sanctions, including by suggesting that it would suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.<\/p>\n

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the umbrella organization of Iranian resistance groups in exile, is organizing one conference and demonstration after another worldwide. The support the NCRI receives around the globe is a clear signal, and it is important that the catastrophic human rights situation under the Iranian theocracy remains in focus.<\/p>\n

At the UN headquarters in Geneva, as well as during the demonstration of exiled Iranians and their supporters, the main theme was the dramatic deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran. Of course, the many executions with which the mullahs\u2019 regime seeks to eliminate its opposition were also a central issue.<\/p>\n

Since the revelations of Iran\u2019s nuclear program in 2002, the United States has employed diplomacy, sanctions and, most recently, force to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.\u00a0 Each successive administration has sought to convince Tehran that the pursuit of nuclear weapons is not worth the costs.\u00a0 While policies have differed substantially concerning concessions and coercive measures, all have failed to end Iran\u2019s quest for nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

For over two decades, U.S. policy has been based on the false hope that Iranian leaders can be convinced that it is in their best interest to moderate and abandon their goal of nuclear weapons.\u00a0 This hope has been consistently disappointed but never abandoned.\u00a0 Every administration has shared the same flawed premise:\u00a0 there are only two choices\u2014negotiations or war.\u00a0 Given that stark choice, every president has opted for negotiations, even while Tehran repeatedly showed that it was using negotiations to buy time to advance its nuclear ambitions.\u00a0 While there have been clear differences, from appeasement under Obama and Biden to maximum pressure in Trump\u2019s first term, the objective was always the same:\u00a0 to negotiate limits on Iran\u2019s nuclear activities that would block the pathway to a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON, D.C.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014\u00a0<\/strong>Today, September 30, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) introduced the\u00a0Seized Iranian Arms Transfer Authorization (SEIZE) Act<\/em>, bipartisan legislation to help transfer confiscated Iranian weapons seized while en route to terrorist groups, like the Houthis in Yemen, directly to U.S. partners.<\/p>\n

The bipartisan legislation is co-led by Reps. Jefferson Shreve (IN-6), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), and Rich McCormick (GA-7). Companion legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Ted Budd (R-NC) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ).<\/p>\n

Currently, these seized weapons are held by U.S. Central Command but face a potentially year-long legal review before distribution. The bipartisan SEIZE Act cuts through red tape, ensuring that this military equipment can be transferred swiftly to America\u2019s partners and allies around the globe.<\/p>\n
