US Sends $230 Million To Lebanon as It Moves to Disarm Hezbollah, Sources Say<\/h3>\n

WASHINGTON\/BEIRUT, Oct 2 (Reuters) – U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump’s<\/a>\u00a0administration approved $230 million for Lebanon’s security forces this week as they push to disarm the once powerful armed group Hezbollah, sources in Washington and Beirut said.<\/p>\n

A Lebanese source familiar with the decision said the funding included $190 million for the Lebanese Armed Forces and $40 million for the Internal Security Forces.<\/p>\n

Democratic U.S. congressional aides said the funds had been released just before Washington’s fiscal year ended on September 30. “For a small country like Lebanon, that’s really, really significant,” one of the aides said on a call with reporters, requesting anonymity in order to speak freely.<\/p>\n

In a ruling handed down on Thursday, the Federal Court upheld the government\u2019s decision to deny entry to Mohammadreza Mazloumiaboukheili.<\/p>\n

The 64-year-old had applied for a visa to visit his son in Ontario, but it was refused on the grounds he was part of a regime engaged in terrorism and rights abuses.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0court ruling<\/strong><\/a>, which dismissed his appeal, marks a success for the Canadian government\u2019s efforts to keep Iranian officials out of the country.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Maryam Rajavi highlighted the explosive state of Iranian society, the spread of social protests, and the growing support among young people for the Iranian Resistance and the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) inside the country.
