On September 29, the regime\u2019s own water industry spokesperson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irna.ir\/news\/85952868\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isa Bozorgzadeh, warned<\/a> that \u201cTehran stands at the frontline of the national water crisis.\u201d Apart from the Talaghan reservoir, he admitted, all dams supplying the capital have either reached or are near their dead volume.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"2169\">\u201cTehran\u2019s reservoirs contain only 258 million cubic meters of water,\u201d he said, \u201cdown from 485 million cubic meters last year and far below the long-term average of 618 million.\u201d In other words, half the capital\u2019s water reserves have vanished in a single year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2171\" data-end=\"2520\">Bozorgzadeh\u2019s list of drought-stricken cities reads like a national map: Mashhad, Isfahan, Tabriz, Arak, Saqqez, Baneh, Bandar Abbas\u2014each with shrinking reservoirs and growing discontent. Successive governments diverted rivers to feed regime-affiliated industries or ideological vanity projects, ignoring ecological limits. The regime\u2019s centralized control over water allocation turned a natural resource into a political weapon\u2014rewarding loyal regions, punishing restive ones, and enriching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iranwatch.org\/iranian-entities\/khatam-al-anbiya-construction-headquarters-kaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contractors linked to the Revolutionary Guards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3123\" data-end=\"3526\">The result is what environmentalists call a \u201chydro-political collapse.\u201d Aquifers across central and eastern Iran are sinking irreversibly.
