(Attribution: \u00a9 Cayambe, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Strasbourg, October 8, 2025 \u2014 In a session on the EU\u2019s strategy toward Iran, members of the European Parliament and senior EU officials called for a decisive shift away from appeasement, endorsing a firm sanctions policy and open support for Iran\u2019s organized democratic opposition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/multimedia.europarl.europa.eu\/en\/photo\/ep-plenary-session-eu-strategy-with-regard-to-irans-nuclear-threat-and-the-implementation-of-eu-sanctions-resulting-from-the-snapback-mechanism_20251008_EP-191452I_MCH_PST_043?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The debate<\/a>, held under the title <em>\u201cEU Strategy on the Iranian Nuclear Threat and Sanctions under the Snapback Mechanism,\u201d<\/em> coincided with the official reimposition of UN and EU sanctions against Tehran. Danish EU Affairs Minister Marie Bjerre, whose country currently chairs the EU Council, said the decision followed Iran\u2019s \u201ccontinued and serious violations\u201d of its international nuclear commitments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She stressed that \u201cIran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon\u201d and that the EU had fully reinstated all previously lifted restrictions, covering nuclear, missile, and financial sectors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">European Commissioner Jessica Roswall added that the renewed sanctions include \u201ca binding suspension of all enrichment and reprocessing activities,\u201d along with measures targeting ballistic programs and financial networks linked to the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iranian?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iranian<\/a> people are tired of the Mullah\u2019s regime, which become an agent of religious fanaticism, the suppression of women\u2019s rights, and the persecution and killing of opponents, and international terrorism. Spanish MEP Javier Zarzalejos, Chair of the Civil Liberties Committee, said: \u201cThe real issue is the Iranian regime, which is a challenge that requires an entirely new approach in our policy toward Tehran. With this regime in power, there will be no peace in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He condemned the regime\u2019s record of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2025\/09\/iran-over-1000-people-executed-as-authorities-step-up-horrifying-assault-on-right-to-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 1,000 executions<\/a> in the first nine months of 2025\u201d and questioned why its ambassadors \u201cstill operate freely in European capitals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian MEP Carlo Ciccioli welcomed the EU\u2019s decision to reimpose sanctions after a decade, calling it \u201cmorally necessary.\u201d He declared: \u201cThe real war, from the beginning, has been between the regime and the Iranian people \u2014 especially women. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryam Rajavi,<\/a> President-elect of the NCRI, reminded us, the Iranian crisis cannot be resolved through appeasement or war. The path is change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lithuanian MEP Petras Au\u0161trevi\u010dius, Co-Chair of the Friends of a Free Iran group, said Tehran had deceived the West by pretending to cooperate on its nuclear program. \u201cWithout the initial revelations of the MEK and NCRI,\u201d he said, \u201cthe regime would likely already possess nuclear weapons. The EU must clearly support the Iranian Resistance led by Maryam Rajavi and her Ten-Point Plan, the only credible roadmap toward a free and democratic Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conference also heard from Juan Carlos Girauta Vidal, who denounced Tehran as \u201cthe main destabilizing force in the Middle East and the world\u2019s leading state sponsor of terrorism.\u201d He recalled the 2023<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/france\/article\/2024\/07\/14\/the-sunflowers-case-the-petty-criminal-the-attempted-assassination-and-the-shadow-cast-by-iran_6684192_7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> assassination attempt<\/a> on former Parliament Vice President Alejo Vidal-Quadras, calling for the IRGC to be blacklisted as a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"sl\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddfa EU mora zavzeti stro\u017ejo in odlo\u010dnej\u0161o politiko do Irana.<\/p>\n<p>\u2622\ufe0f \u017de ve\u010d kot trideset let iransko opozicijsko gibanje razkriva tajne jedrske aktivnosti re\u017eima.
