We will continue to take action to call out and tackle such behaviour.<\/p>\n

Today we are\u00a0announcing sanctions against corrupt Iranian banker and businessman, Aliakbar Ansari, for his role in financially supporting the activities of the IRGC.<\/p>\n

Iran appears to be stepping up the rebuilding of its ballistic missile program, despite the reintroduction last month of\u00a0United Nations sanctions<\/a>\u00a0that ban arms sales to the country and ballistic missile activity.<\/p>\n

European intelligence sources say several shipments of sodium perchlorate, the main precursor in the production of the solid propellant that powers Iran\u2019s mid-range conventional missiles, have arrived from China to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas since the so-called\u00a0\u201csnapback\u201d mechanism<\/a>\u00a0was triggered at the end of September.<\/p>\n

Those sources say the shipments, which began arriving on September 29, contain 2,000 tons of sodium perchlorate bought by Iran from Chinese suppliers in the wake of its\u00a012-day conflict with Israel in June<\/a>. The purchases are believed to be part of a determined effort to rebuild the Islamic Republic\u2019s depleted missile stocks. Several of the cargo ships and Chinese entities involved are under sanctions from the United States.<\/p>\n

Since February 2021, Iran has not been implementing any of its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), including the AP. This has seriously affected the Agency\u2019s JCPOA-related verification and monitoring activities. During 2024, the Director General submitted to the Board of Governors, and in parallel to the UN Security Council, four quarterly reports and five updated reports entitled Verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council resolution 2231 (2015).<\/p>\n

At the end of 2024, outstanding safeguards issues related to the presence of uranium particles of anthropogenic origin at two undeclared locations in Iran remained unresolved.
