The figures were <a href=\"https:\/\/donya-e-eqtesad.com\/%D8%A8%D8%AE%D8%B4-%D8%B3%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%AA-%D8%AE%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%86-62\/4227518-%D9%88%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%AA-%D8%A8%D9%87%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%B4%D8%AA-%D8%A2%D9%84%D9%88%D8%AF%DA%AF%DB%8C-%D9%87%D9%88%D8%A7-%D8%AF%D8%B1-%D8%B3%D8%A7%D9%84-%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%86-%D9%87%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86%DB%8C-%D8%B1%D8%A7-%DA%AF%D8%B1%D9%81%D8%AA-%D9%87%D8%B1-%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AA-%D9%86%D9%81%D8%B1-%D9%82%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%86%DB%8C-%D8%B0%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%85%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%82-%D8%B4%D8%AF%D9%86%D8%AF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presented by Alireza Raeisi<\/a>, a deputy health minister, at a time when several provinces are experiencing what officials have described as \u201cemergency\u201d pollution conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"906\">Speaking on November 10, 2025, Raeisi said the deaths were associated with exposure to fine particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns, one of the most harmful forms of airborne pollution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"906\">\u201cBased on the estimates, in 1403 around 58,975 deaths in the country were attributable to exposure to particles smaller than 2.5 microns,\u201d he said. The figure amounts to 161 deaths per day, or roughly seven every hour, according to the ministry\u2019s assessment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"1107\">The ministry also estimated the economic loss connected to these pollution-related deaths at $17.2 billion over the past year. According to the ministry, 100% of Iran\u2019s urban population is exposed to particulate concentrations above World Health Organization guidelines, and 96% are experiencing levels higher than domestic standards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1368\" data-end=\"1800\">The situation has been especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khabaronline.ir\/news\/2140542\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">severe in Khuzestan<\/a>, where local officials described conditions as \u201ccritical\u201d and announced that most schools will operate online through the end of the week. In Tehran, officials responded by restricting daily traffic permits and pausing some industrial activities, steps critics say are temporary measures that do not address the underlying causes of pollution.
