The amount of Iranian crude held on tankers at sea has swelled to the highest in two-and-a-half years, reflecting slower demand from top buyer China even as\u00a0exports<\/a>\u00a0from the OPEC member remain elevated.<\/p>\n

There are about 52 million barrels of the nation\u2019s oil in floating storage, the most since May 2023, with roughly half off Malaysia, data from shipping-intelligence firm Kpler showed. That\u2019s close to double the volume just a month ago, and up from 5 million to 10 million barrels in January.<\/p>\n

Germany’s domestic intelligence service, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), has disclosed that opponents of the Iranian government living in exile in Germany are increasingly in the crosshairs of Iranian security services operating in Germany.\u00a0The BfV has said that in recent months, the rate of Iranian opposition supporters in Germany fearing reprisals in their country of origin has risen significantly.<\/p>\n

“The are numerous reports which we have received from various parts of Germany, especially over the past year which confirm an unprecedented intensification of the activities of the Iranian regime’s secret services in Germany,” said Javad Dabiran, spokesman for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NWRI), a banned Iranian opposition group with a strong presence outside the country.<\/p>\n

Five months after the 12 Day War\u2019s conclusion, it is useful to take stock of the status of Iran’s nuclear enrichment and weaponization sites that were attacked.\u00a0 Are the sites being rebuilt, sanitized, or left as they were on the day they were bombed?\u00a0 What is the status of sites that held enriched uranium, particularly 60 percent highly enriched uranium but also stocks of 20 percent and up to five percent enriched uranium?\u00a0 In addition, what is the status of two key sites not attacked in June, the Pickaxe Mountain complex near Natanz and Taleghan 2 at Parchin, the former slated for centrifuge-related activities or potentially possessing stocks of enriched uranium and the latter posing a risk of having a link to nuclear weapons development?<\/p>\n

The Institute previously published a comprehensive assessment of major sites attacked in late June, just after the war\u2019s end, and subsequently published additional studies on damage to individual sites.\u00a0 Overall, the damage caused by airstrikes to numerous nuclear sites was extensive and, in many cases, catastrophic.\u00a0 Iran has since undertaken damage assessments and efforts to conduct clean up and fortification work to varying extent at several sites.<\/p>\n
