Parliament turned into a battleground over inflation and collapsing living standards. Hard-line media escalated an organized assault on former president Hassan Rouhani. Cabinet ministers faced coordinated impeachment threats. And the sitting president Masoud Pezeshkian\u2014under pressure from all sides\u2014warned, via state outlets, that Tehran may soon require water rationing and even partial evacuation if the drought continues.<\/p>\n Each faction is using the country\u2019s deteriorating conditions to shield itself from blame and to corner rivals before public anger spills into the streets. Official data and even regime-adjacent analytics tend to understate the gravity of the crisis; the political reaction to that crisis is now the clearest measure of regime fragility.<\/p>\n The December 3 session of the Majles opened with MP Ahmad Naderi citing<\/a> Central Bank figures showing enormous overdrafts and bad debts in several private banks, claiming their large facilities exceed \u201cthree times the annual cash subsidy\u201d of the population. His proposed fixes\u2014forced mergers, tighter controls\u2014carefully avoided the political networks behind the banks\u2019 rise.<\/p>\n Others were blunter. Jamshid Qaem-Maqam admitted<\/a>, \u201cwe know what we\u2019ve done to people\u2019s tables,\u201d listing inflation, unemployment and \u201castronomical\u201d rents. MP Sepahvand attacked the recycling of \u201cretired white-collar elites\u201d through quasi-state holding companies. Nakhai-Rad said wages are \u201ceaten by inflation before they reach people\u2019s accounts,\u201d pointing to collapsing small producers and currency volatility so sharp \u201cpeople don\u2019t know what price they will wake up to tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n The outrage is selective.
