Three-minute read<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Tehran this week, the regime\u2019s insecurity is visible in the work it assigns to institutions that are supposed to look routine. A criminal court is turned into a briefing room on European broadcast\u00a0regulation. A well-connected insider writes as if he is filing a warning to the security apparatus, not speaking to citizens. And the Resistance circulates a picture of pre-positioned repression\u2014arguing that the state is\u00a0preparing for\u00a0the street, not\u00a0governing for\u00a0stability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What follows is not a debate over the economy. It is a record of what the regime\u00a0actually did\u00a0and said\u2014because its own undertakings reveal what it fears: organized opposition, the collapse of its narrative monopoly, and the prospect that public anger stops being private.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Courtroom as a Censorship Desk<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the regime used the\u00a0<\/span>49th session of its<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in-absentia case against 104 PMOI-linked defendants as a political broadcast\u2014staged in a Tehran courtroom but aimed at Iranian living rooms.\u00a0Practically, state media presented a judiciary that cannot win consent at home trying to reassert control over what Iranians can watch and what Europeans can host.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the clearest tell of regime anxiety, the presiding judge fixated not on evidence but on\u00a0Simaye\u00a0Azadi,\u00a0a\u00a0satellite network\u00a0affiliated with the Iranian Resistance.\u00a0Throughout the session,\u00a0the\u00a0so-called\u00a0judge effectively lectured\u00a0Europe on how to shut the channel\u00a0down\u2014treating\u00a0a Tehran trial as a venue to pressure regulators and carriers outside Iran\u2019s borders. That obsession is political, not legal:\u00a0<\/span>Simaye\u00a0Azadi\u2019s value<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is that it breaks the state\u2019s monopoly, amplifies protest footage, and speaks directly into a society the regime already knows is combustible.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The judge highlighted a \u201cformal complaint\u201d seeking action against officials in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, referenced filings to Ofcom, and threatened that European governments could be\u00a0deemed\u00a0responsible if they do not intervene\u2014an attempt to outsource censorship through foreign regulatory systems. And the same session folded in the regime\u2019s agitation over\u00a0Mrs.\u00a0Maryam\u00a0<\/span>Rajavi\u2019s European Parliament appearance<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday, December 10, 2025\u2014treated as an intolerable grant of legitimacy and attacked in state-linked messaging precisely because it signals an organized alternative on an international stage.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
