\u201cToday in Piazza Carignano, I reiterated that Piedmont stands alongside the Iranian resistance and against a regime that rules through fear and violence,\u201d said Davide Nicco, president of the Regional Council. Speaking at the rally, he described the Iranian people as \u201ca courageous people who are not afraid to risk their lives to reclaim their freedom. We cannot remain silent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Uprising Was Decades in the Making<\/h3>\n

What the world is witnessing across Iran today is not a sudden tremor or a spontaneous reaction to a distant voice. It is the culmination of a tectonic shift\u2014one produced by a society that has reached its breaking point after more than four decades of sustained, methodical resistance. To understand the durability of this uprising, one must look beyond the headlines and past the hollow claims made outside Iran, and instead focus on the organized networks that have kept the pulse of defiance alive under some of the most brutal conditions imaginable.<\/p>\n

For more than forty years, a dedicated opposition has operated inside Iran\u2019s borders at a human cost that is almost incomprehensible. Over 100,000 lives have been lost to torture and execution. Among them were the 30,000 political prisoners systematically murdered during the 1988 massacre\u2014an atrocity that United Nations experts have recently characterized as a crime against humanity and a precursor to genocide. This is the bedrock of today\u2019s protests. They are not born of impulse or imitation, but of a legacy of absolute commitment forged in blood.<\/p>\n

A teenage girl was among six brave young Iranians killed in cold blood by murderous regime forces whose identities were today released by freedom fighters.<\/p>\n

Zahra (Raha) Bohlouli-Pour, 18, was a student at the University of Tehran. She was killed by the regime’s security forces in Tehran (Fatemi Street) on January 8, 2026.<\/p>\n

Zahra and her fellow freedom-fighters were members of the network of \u201cResistance Units\u201d which have been campaigning for a democratic Iran for decades.<\/p>\n

The Resistance Units count many women among their members. They have been involved in low-key anti-regime activities including organizing demonstrations. In the past three weeks, in many cases they provided protection to the protests.<\/p>\n

In Iran, Don\u2019t Rerun 1979<\/h3>\n

Iran is once again experiencing sustained\u00a0unrest<\/a>\u00a0reflecting something much more powerful than a political or ideological disagreement. Month after month, the people have endured deepening economic deprivation and political suffocation. The ruling clerics, led by\u00a0Ayatollah Ali Khamenei<\/a>, seem unable or unwilling to provide relief even as they continue building weaponry and underwriting foreign proxy militias.\u00a0Reports<\/a>\u00a0indicate that Iraqi Shia militias funded by the Tehran regime have been brought into Iran to help suppress the uprising.<\/p>\n

When shopkeepers shut their doors, students flood campuses, and families chant in the streets knowing they may be arrested or even\u00a0killed<\/a>, they are not just taking a day or two off to march for a virtuous cause: they are signaling something far more consequential, namely that the Islamic Republic\u2019s capacity to provide for Iran\u2019s citizens has collapsed. After 47 years of diverting energy revenues and holding back the vast potential of over 90 million Iranians, this regime\u2019s days may be numbered.<\/p>\n
